Only manage to score > 90% consistently for the past 4 years. then again, he only go through a interview for RI and I am not sure how they assessed though. Did your DS apply RI this year?

HCI divides its WL into WL1 and WL2. For those on WL1, HCI guarantees that the students will be admitted. For WL2, HCI does not guarantee, but based on historical statistics, there is a very high chance the student will be admitted.


But the catch is that all students will need to indicate HCI as their first choice in their DSA selection application.

The rationale behind this arrangement is that, HCI may be offering 250 places for DSA, hence only 250 students can be placed on CO. However, some students may be offered multiple offers from other schools, and finally select another school as their first choice. MOE will then offer the freed vacanies to those WL1 students, and thereafter, those on WL2. If you are not successful during the MOE allocation process, you will need to submit an appeal letter directly to HCI, and HCI will accept the WL1 student if he has indicated HCI as first choice, For those on WL2, I understand HCI will try its best to accomodate. This is perhaps HCI's strategy to ensure that the students which they like to attract (i.e. WL1 and WL2) will place HCI as first choice instead of Rx (school in Bishan).

HCI actually arranges many series of talks for parents and students, and advanced orientation camp for CO, WL1 and WL2 students even before the new school term starts. Do join them, as your DS is almost certainly assured of a place in the school.

Above is based on my DS' experience for last year. DSA admission has its pros and cons.

Pros - PSLE exam is too unpredictable. Your child may have done consistenly well for all 6 years, but for PSLE, he/she may suddenly stumble during oral exam, or write out-of-point for compositions. Such nightmares do happen and it may happen to anyone. Joseph Schooling did badly for the 2012 Olympics, but he had another chance 4 years later. Your child has only 1 chance for PSLE.

Cons -
1. More often than not, a child's CO may not be his/her most preferred school. Then it becomes a difficult decision - do you accept something which is already guaranteed, or do you forgo it and take the risk of going home worst off?
2. Kids being kids, will not study so hard for PSLE when they are guaranteed of a place in a good school.

Good luck to everyone. I was anxious last year, hence I am here to share our experience. Hope that those on HCI WL1 and WL2 can sleep better after reading this post.

May I know for DSA online applications, under Acheivements/ awards section, If DS only get Credit for ICAS test, is better NOT to put it in right?

Any idea of what is the top class in p5? my daughter is currently in 5H now.

Historically 5I, followed by 5H, 5G etc but not too sure for this year. E.g. 4A and 4I was historically the top 2 classes in P4 but was changed to 4A and 4B this year.

May I know for P6 the bestb class is 6I followed by 6H etc ? Which class take Chinese as 2nd language?

I've gone there but I'm quite old already actually, so my experience would be from about 5 years back. ^^\"

I was selected to go for the camp along with 3 other classmates. So that made 2 girls, 2 boys from my class. The camp was just like a normal P5 camp (pitch tents, high elements, etc.) except this time we were given more freedom in terms of decisions.

My group had 10 people, and they were all from a school that was different from mine. (RGPS, Henry Park, etc.) Hence, I did initially feel rather left out but we bonded over ice breakers. The experience of being away from close friends, family could be rather startling for your child at first but overcoming it would be the first step to meeting new people and friends. ^^

Back to the more freedom about decisions. In this camp, we were allowed to make decisions like how much time do we need to shower, etc. I wasn't really used to making these decisions being a 10 year old then, but through mistakes, we learnt to be responsible people. (i.e. One particular scenario was that our group told our instructor we needed 10 mins to shower, only to realise that we couldn't because we didn't have enough cubicles. Hence, we apologised and asked if we could have an extra five minutes, and we managed to shower within the 15 minutes by showering quickly, making sure the next person has a turn. The instructor did not reprimand us but said it was good that we had sought his permission instead of just continuing on, and by thinking of others, we managed to save time.)

Another experience was about how we all came together despite being in different groups and helped each other out. A friend of mine was in Group 2 and I was in Group 4. The girls in my group (4+me which makes us 5) had problems folding the tent. So my friend and his group helped us to fold the tent and later on we helped another group to clear their tables when they were late for an activity. So I would say the camp really built a sense of team work and camaraderie. ^^

Other activities includes
- building a makeshift raft out of kayaks for the whole group (life jackets are worn)
- high elements
- i think there was a performance but I'm not too sure about this ^^\"

It might be a bit frightening at first, but ultimately it will be a rewarding experience on the last day. I still remember it till 5 years on and if I had the choice I would definitely return to the camp. (I think it was JBAC ^^)

I also have a tutor that I would like to recommend if you guys are interested. Both DS did very well under her. My elder DS got A* for his PSLE and younger son scored band 1 for last SA2.


But she is in the east side, tampines simei area. If don mind the distance, PM me. She was featured in the newspaper and magazines. Owner of the centre and teach by herself, my nieces and nephews also go over to her centre. The best thing is they have hands on experiment which both my DS love...

I know of a really good tutor from tuition centre @ Holland area. She's one of the best kept secrets, many high ability kids under her in my DS's school but parents kiasu or selfish, don't want to recommend. Slowly one by one quit own tuition and switch to her. After I sent my son to her, I see why the kids love her, very inspiring. Can pm u if you don't mind the travel.[/quote]

I've just PM you. I normally do not recommend a tutor to my friends unless I have tried and tested her work over at least a year or two, and have seen excellent results. This one is a cut above the others whom I have tried over the years. So far, my friends have come back to me with excellent feedback on her.
