    • RE: LCentral Discussion

      Alexjune,

Really? Lcentral’s fee is more ex in weekend n weekday!!! Oopss

I think their programs are quite similar! its more about teachers.
But 3.2 years old, i m thinking u can teach your kid the letters sound or let him watch the leapfrog letters sound! U can save a bit of $$$$.

    • RE: New Chinese Syllabus - How to teach (assessment/guide books)

      Hi raisin tan,

Personally, I think the new syllabus involves more listening and speaking. In terms of the contents, I think its still the same, HYPY, basic chinese words.

So, I would suggest speaking chinese everyday. If you can’t do it everyday at least communicate with them in those words that they learnt or introduced in each chapter.

I would also suggest reading chinese story book or magazine. Depends on your kid’s ability and interest, probably a story book per week or those magazine that the skool requests parents to subscribe

      Alexjune,

      If I’m not wrong,
      1. ICR 's reading prog is 1 year but Lcentral is 9 months.
      2. ICR’s weekdays fees are slightly higher than Lcentral. But Lcentral has higher weekend rate.

Other than that, I think they are similar.
Suggest you to do assessment with both centres tat near your house then decide.

I am puzzled why there are many foreigner kids get rejected for p1?

Especially for those kids with dependant pass who parents are working in singapore… Apparently there are some new primary schools which should still have "many vacancies"…

    • RE: All About Dyslexia

      Qing8huat,

Thanks for sharing this. I am not sure is he potentiallu high risk for dyslexic because your kid is 4, so i thought its quite common. However, i heard DAS has very good preschool program, and seats tend to fill up fast. so its good to let ur kid to join! When will you start the program? Is it everyday?

      Jeff99,

I heard AEIS test is conducted twice a year and moe set quota in terms of #of students they will take in for mainstream school. And the exam papers for english and maths are difficult that p1 and p2 will take the same papers (i cant be sure, but thats what i heard) in AEIS test.

So the kid need to achive not only a pass ( moe will not let you know the score of AEIS), but very good result that put you in the ahead positions to be successful in AEIS.

Homeschooling is not impossible, but i think the teachers have to be very familiar with both MOE syllabus and AEIS exam format…

      I hope its helpful…

      Qing8huat:
My ds is 4years old in nursery. Recently the school noticed he has problem gripping his pencils and colorings so they get the specialist from Das in to assess a few of them as his teachers feel that he's he's a potential risk of dyslexia. And after I attended the talk, I decided to sign him up for the programme and he will be starting in Jan 2015 K1 at his school as the specialist will come in twice a week to teach them.

Theirs is consider as early intervention so by end of K2, psychologist will assess ds on his scoring. I'm hoping to do more things to help him in this 2 years ... will going for the das specialist diploma course in dyslexia help me to teach my ds better and also at the same time help other children out there...
hope to hear some advices. .. so heartache... 😞
Hi qing8huat, how to judge potential risk of dyslexic by pencil gripping and coloring?
