Sunday morning at 7am was really cold though 🙂 It was great for my morning walk. Probably because it rained during the night.
Yes. Coz of after midnight rain, morning was tempted to sleep-in except that I’ve to go fetch MIL for church. By the time service was over, it temp went up very fast!

I had encountered an elderly couple hv exited fr CDC Vouchers program, o’wise most use the system. It has become a habit for me to use. Yes, initially need adjustments & a mindeste to use, o’wise feel strange initially to hv this ‘handout’ to spend. We get use to it.

    • RE: Giving kids an allowance

Just to chop in - Do note that for some kids, “living within their means” maybe allocating entire allowance for their favourite potato chips or bottled drinks. I’ve had to handle one young kid every lunch time before our kids’ program & I had to deliberately weaned him off snacks, by delaying his gratification. I had to inform his parents before I embark on that task. Imagine if he had been left to do as he wishes with do much rubbish for ‘nutrition’! So teaching them what to use their avails resources as well as how to use them wisely is just as impt.

      Funz\" post_id=\"2134642\" time=\"1717500819\" user_id=\"6230:

We had a helper until just before Covid. Timing was just right cos it meant I did not have to be responsible for another person during CD and all the restrictions. By that time, kids were already in their teens so they can definitely pitch in.

While slmkhoo and doodbug do not fancy having to slave over a stove, I do not fancy slaving around the house with a vaccum, mop and iron. So we hired a part time cleaner. I do not mind cook so even though I do work full time, I still cook almost daily. But to be fair I am not restricted by company working hours so I can get home by 5pm to prep and cook dinner and after dinner catch up with more work if need be.

Even though we have a helper from the time kids were young, I have insisted that kids be responsible for their own stuff and picking up after themselves. They have their own rooms and toilets so they are responsible for the basic upkeeping of their own areas. When we did away with the full time helper, they were fully responsible including cleaning their own toilets.

Kids prefer that we do not have a helper and though at times they do whine about having to clean their rooms. I do not really bother about how clean or neat their areas are. Basically their areas, their responsibility. If they choose the live in filth so long as that filth does not spill over to the common area or my area, I do not interfere much. So far both have kept their areas decent enough, DS more so than DD.
I must say you are the model for FTWM!

When days we didn’t hv helpers, my family will chip in. I can’t live with untidiness tho. I’m a cleanliness ‘freak’ and will look into the details to ensure a clean environment. I’m glad I found easy solutions to rid lizards, ants & cockroaches.

Laundry is easy. I just don’t like washing dishes & thankfully, DH has always been the one willing to take over the washing at the start of our marriage.

I don’t think I can be a FTWM & able to keep home w/o a helper or keep my sanity like how Funz managed. Kudos to her abilities to juggle well!

Some of the 2nd lot of trash can be recycled? e.g. paper, plastic boxes.
Not all can be recycled esp if they’re alr soiled with cream or food items. But, yes, we do bag them separately if we hv lots of paper or plastic items, and we bring them to the central recycled bins.

I throw at least 2 thrash bags a day - one for fish bones, chicken fats, etc; the other for thrash such as paper, plasters, wrappers, fruit boxes, etc. I ensure that every dry trash bins fr all bedrooms wld be emptied into the main trash bag & we throw only one, unless those bedroom trash bags are soiled.

Actually the men are fully capable of washing toilets. One of DS’ VIA tasks was to wash the school toilet. And during NS also need to make own bed and scrub toilet bowl to impeccable standards,
      isn’t it?[/quote]
You’re right! NS suppose to take in young boys & return us young men!

I rmbr years back, one of my male peers fr college shared that when he was studying in California, he found jobs easily as most American eyers like to take in S’poreans for their part-time jobs as NS trained strong & resilient young men. Not sure abt this generation though. MIL says it’s a strawberry generation.

I find the transition to having a son to NS is easier than expected, tho not w/o its initial adjustments.

I find more free time to focus on my tasks. My daily interactions with MIL is certainly more engaging & we tend to spend time for tea breaks. When DS is home, he’s resting most of his time. Thankful he’s graduating fr BMT & he’ll be going on next phase of NS training.

I’m mentally preparing myself for the day he’s leaves for studies and when he set up his own home.

Like \"Most young ppl prefer to allocate time for outings, screentime or others but cooking sounds like a chore for their maids (if they’ve one).\"
Doing household chores like sweeping/mopping the floor, washing toilet bowls etc is a job for mums or helpers 😞
You’ve just given me ideas for new jobs for the men in my h’hold.

At least for now, whoever uses the bathroom after the helper had cleaned up in weekends, I require then to do a light brush for the soapy wetness to go down the drain, then wipe dry the floor. This is in consideration for my MIL, so it’s less likely she’ll slip or fall.

Maybe on Sundays when the helper is on rest day, they can do light wash of toilet bowls & sink? We’ve a robot to do floor cleaning, so maybe when I do deep cleaning can involve them?

DS alr helping out to clean the aircon occasionally. DH hv nvr done aircon.
