      Zlia:
Can't attend all of DS1, DD2, and DD3's classroom sessions cos they are all at the same time this Saturday. Might end up hvg to make a separate appt, if it's even possible, with my DD3's FT.

When our basic needs are not met and we can't reverse the situation or the organizer is not able to make accommodation, it is time for creative solutions.

As many often cited it takes a whole kampong to raise a child/ kids, get your child's grandparents, uncles/aunties, nephew or even cousins to go for the session to help you take photo of the slides and take down important notes. There are schools where their students grandparents are active volunteers!!!! So i don't see how RMPS is not able to accept this \"out of the box\" solutions. We can't always :stupid: against the problem and get ourself worked up, it will be easier to get around the problem.

      Unless,
      1) the school is wonderful enough and ensure all parents that they will upload all presentation slides of all levels on their website.
      2) engage PCRs (i.e parent class representatives) to help these group of parents by providing summaries of important information from the presentation.
      3) teachers are being instructed to make exceptions for these parents to have separate appointments. (then again, it will defeat the purpose of the school management to have mass sessions and more personal time taken away from the teachers) :rotflmao:
      4) Worst case scenerio, we as parents had to priortise and decide which kid's session to attend, and faced the wrath of the other siblings getting upset as to why we do not attend their class session. Unlike, Dino mummy's DS1 who is magnanimous.

      [color=#0000BF]ezn cia,

You mean the burning questions is that the school not able to get FT & MT to meet you on a single day & time slot? In that case, would they able to reply you by email?

Good question, the First FT belongs to \"old school\" who refused to access Email stating no email address. Then comes along another FT for the second half semester who is younger and better but cited need time for her to access my child. For MT worse still, changed 3 teachers in just 1yr 2 months. :faint:
      titank:
The school will not be able scrapped the top 2 classes since from P3. This are like the ones 为校争光。It seem like a yearly prize giving event if the child is in the top 3, top in Eng, MT, Maths or Science or top in level.

真的吗? 为学校争光!!! 哪,拉丁马士小学“光荣”是否就是靠这80-90名小学生咯?? :slapshead: I am more inclined to say that the top 2 classes of students are grouped together based on the childrens' ability to learn more. These are what set them different from others. But not necessarily translate into them being more capable/successful and be given so much attention on.

I don't know when the ISH will complete. But, I do know that the school library's upgrading is near completion and is considered safe for the students to go and borrow books. Hooray for my DS!

Understand that the Principal is giving a generic opening statement. Then the parents were divided into respective class with the FT.If you need know more individualised info regarding yr child, must arrange separately appt with the FT or the subject teachers. If the FT teaches all 3 subjects then it is easy to get info. Any parents can share their experiences since the sch had removed the Meet The Teacher session where I remembered in 2010,2011 there is.

I went to yesterday PTM session. I went with good expectation that finally the school is doing something right... They had arranged the PTM on saturday which the childrens are not affected. Logistics-wise is ideal ( more staffs to handle parents movement ). And, they had included a text-box for us (parents) to express our concerns or questions we like to hear from the teachers on the reply slip. I was like \"WOW-ed\". They are making vast improvements to engage us parents in-depth.

P2 and P6 started with parents going for the \"classrooms\" session first. My DS is in P2 and hence we parents are advised to go to the child's classroom. Mr. Paul Tan was there to direct the traffic. P4 parents started with the principal opening session then followed by the \"classroom\" activities. Parents movement are very organized.

Many parents alike, wanted to know our child's development in their academic areas and social aspects. We wanted to know our child's strengths and weakness. However, the school removed the individual (1-to-1) session. Instead the teachers run through the Curriculum. So basically, we parents are \"going back to school for a day\" to be educated on what our children are being educated in.... 😂 interesting huh

I agree with Titank, it will be impossible for us parents to arrange single session with the FT and MT. I requested a session with the FT and MT for my son to have my burning questions to be answered since last year. And, the answer i got was its difficult to get the teachers altogether for an update. So, to dear RMPS principal, we parents are expected to resolve this issue ourselves btw teachers and parents? How about those parents who are working? One thing for sure and chop-stamped is that the teachers will be fast and immediate to feedback to you if your child is not performing to expectation behavioural-wise. 😂

Then you are being invited for a principal seminar on \"Every school a good School\" echo-ing the MOE minister's famous tagline. Why not echo-ing \" Every class a good class!\"; \"Every child a good child!\" ??? Then the school should scraped \"best class\" where the students are taught high ability maths and science. Then the school should scraped having head girl/boy. Each child should be given equal opportunity for leadership. Also, scraped entirely prize-giving or excellence day where the students are \"forced\" to support those who are prizes-winners!!!

What they failed to realise is that the school are educating humans and not mass-production of \"robots\". Every child is different, every class dynamics is different and every school is different! What we parents like to know is the strength and weakness of our child in academic and social aspects so that we are able to motivate them in areas they are weak and support them on their strengths. So, by scrapping the \"ONE-2-ONE\" session, we parents had no way to reconcile with the teachers. So at the end of the day, its one-way communication flow. :rotflmao: see a similarity here?

Despite being highly dismay by the school style of engaging parents, I decided to do some \"+ve\" reflective thinking. This is my outcome: \"I got to spend 3hrs without the menace of my children.\" :imcool:

The principal has been asking for constructive feedback from parents. Wonder how receptive she will be towards such feedback.

BINGO!. The key word here is CONSTRUCTIVE and her definition of constructive.

Haha Enough said, i wish all parents have a happy lunar new year. Lets celebrate....

If the school is real environmental friendly, then they should exercise the option of electronic communication. Not through consolidation into a month! Weird....

Well, not everybody has access to the internet and the school must cater to parents who do not use computer, right? So, paper communication is meant for this group of parents.

I wouldn't have any problem accessing the soft copy from the website IF the school had been diligent in uploading the notifications ON TIME. So far, it has not proven to be so. You look at the amount of information available on the website and the website in general. Does it give you the impression that the school is strong in IT? http://i970.photobucket.com/albums/ae190/Miss_Nelly/Emotions/RollingEyesSmiley5.gif\">

That's understandable for these groups of parents who have no access to internet. But they belong to the albeit minor. The school had the real statistics of these group of parents. They are just not tough enough to implement.

Update information on their website? Haha its the joke of the town. Add to the irony, they had won many awards for ICT, but fail to use IT to effectively communicate information to parents. Imagine, when i went to the IT training for parents by mconline, i asked why can't they push information to the parents? Instead they replied that the FT will inform the students to inform the parents? Relying such information via traditional method of word of mouth? So this is so called IT?

I seriously think that the school really need to pull their socks up on this information update on their website.

Did your child receive any notification on the SmartCard photo taking session, since this matter wasn't mentioned in January's notification? :scratchhead:
No, as the SmartCard photo taking is only applicable to P1. My DS is in P2 this year.

Well my DS reported that the children are allowed to wear traditional chinese clothings but becos tomo there is PAL lesson, the teacher advise to wear PE attire and then change into T.Chinese clothings during/after recess.
      qms:
lessons that are supposed to be conducted when your child goes for the celebration will not be conducted.
Well, my DS FT didn't mentioned what time the celebration starts to the kids but I presume the celebration starts around 11am as that's what indicated in ParentLink website.
      qms:
your child will definitely receive a donation card by tomorrow.
🦆 Haha its the time of the year again, huh? Duck!!!

It's usually distributed on the first Thursday of the month.
** Puzzled** :? Isn't such communication should be given to parents earlier? Instead of waiting till the stated appointed date to release communication parents? I can't believe that the school is working on JIT practice??? Somehow the school communication is always in the line of fire that is not prompt and always outdated.

Anyway, The school is having 2 sessions of celebration on Friday. (3levels each) but do not know whether the school allows the children to wear Chinese ethnic clothings to add into the celebratory mode?!?! Whether the school still uphold the tradition of students bringing mandarin oranges (like in the past)?!?! Also, whether any classes to be conducted tomorrow??? Anyway n anyhow, i will still ask my DS to bring the m.oranges for his ft n co-ft.
