Hi all, I am also new to this forum and wanna share my exp with parents who are keen in OrthoK.
My 13 year old gal has been using the OrthoK lenses at Stan Isaacs for about 1.5 years now, her myopia and astigmatism has been really stable ever since she first started. Because of the complexity of her prescription (high myopia -5.25 and high astigmatism of -4.00), we were worried that OrthoK may not be suitable for her.. since many websites says that it is suitable for only less than -6.00 degrees and low astig.
My hubby and I asked around and finally decided on Stan Isaac because of many good reviews and prices are more reasonable as compared to some other places. Luckily the first pair of lenses that was received worked really well for her. When we first started, she could see 6/6 within 1 week of lens wear. During the first consultation for OrthoK, other myopia control methods were informed to us and the optometrist told us that full correction for OrthoK may need several trials and chair time but she will try her best to design the lens and these lenses will not be charged until best vision is achieved for my gal. In the end, we still choose to try OrthoK because my gal eyesight has been getting worse every year. We understand from them that they customize every piece of OrthoK lens according to individual eye shapes therefore it takes around 2 weeks for the lenses to come.
On the 1st day, we were taught on how to handle and clean the OrthoK lens, we spent around 1 hour learning to put on the lens and the person who taught my gal was very patient
I was just sipping on their milo in the waiting area. And we had to return the next day early in the morning for follow up after 1st night of lens wear to check for any eye discomfort or infection and vision corrected which I think is very professional and thoughtful of them. The optometrist who saw my daughter prescribed a pair of spectacles for her in case she is unwell or have camps in school and cant use the lens. My gal has been very disciplined, wearing the lens every night and so far no complain.
We just had our quarterly visit, the optometrist told us that lenses are still in good condition and we dont need to change them. Btw... Stan Isaacs appointment are always fully booked, so it is better to book in advance. If we cannot meet his schedule, we have another optometrist in the clinic that we prefer to see also. So far my exp has been very decent
