Hi Gorilla.

Yeah, that thought also crossed my mind when my daughter goes into thee morning session. Rather than having the school bus pick her up at such early hours, I’m hoping by then I should be able to send her to school instead and have the bus drop her off at home.

Glad to hear that you got alternative mode of transportation for your daughter.

      Hi fmastuki,

I live in Yishun. There's a school bus but the problem is she'll need to spend 1.5hrs in the bus. She's the 1st to be picked up although her caregiver's place is on the 'outer part of Yishun'. If you're familiar with Yishun, caregiver's place is near Khatib which the bus starts and moves to Yishun central then comes back to Khatib again before proceeding to sch. Tried talking to the bus operator about the route but all I get it 'it's like that one lah'.

Was hopefully the 2nd bus operator could give a better timing but too bad they backout last minute.
Hi Gorilla. I'm pretty familiar with Yishun. The arrangement is almost similar to my daughter's. I was quite worried as to how it will affect her initially but she's adapted very well since last year.

She's the first to be picked up at 10.50am and the last to be dropped off at 7.30pm. I think she's adjusted well to this arrangement. We feed her brunch at about 10am and packed her some snacks or sandwitches, which she normally keeps it for her return journey home. The brunch is sufficient to fill her till her recess time.

For me, I'm super thankful that there's a bus operator that wants to ply this route as there were none before this and I'm fortunate enough to have a bus driver that is so reliable. He'll call my wife or myself to remind us if there's any single session, etc. He even told off some of the P2 girls who were teasing/bullying my daughter and reported it to the ops mgr of the school when it persisted. Everything's cool now and my girl enjoys her ride to & from school.

I hope your daughter will be able to adjust to this schedule well. Give it ssome time and it should be OK I reckon.

michyms, oh wow, that's very nice of her to give out her mobile number. DD's form teacher only gave email and office number in the welcome note.

My godpa is helping me to send her till my cousin gets his taxi next mth 🙂 Yes, it's a load off my mind. At least she could eat lunch at a proper time rather than at 10am in the morning!
Hi Gorilla. I just logged on after a long absence. Noticed that you're facing the same problem as I did previously. Where do you live? I live in Pasir Ris and I managed to get the school bus to pick up & send my daughter home.

      Hi Tink

Just ordered thee books online. I kinda ordered the assessment papers that they have as well. I thought it wouldn't hurt.

Got them to deliver to my place as I'd be too busy over the next couple of weeks to make arrangements to pick up the books. My girl is quite excited about it and so am I. Kinda looking forward to it. hee hee hee

      Hi fmastuki,
Yeah...it's always exciting to get new textbooks for the following yr. DD2 gets real excited flipping thru all the new textbooks. The excitement dies down when she has to sit down and do real work.....haha.

      Hi Tink.

I hope not in my case. She came back with loads of story books from the Popular Bookfest today. Her poor godma......She's gonna fill her days with her story books and I'll have her reintroduced to her school books when they're delivered on the 2nd Dec.

      Hi fmastuki,

Fantastic to hear your DD is coping well with the sch bus.

Yes, check the Pacific Bookstores website closer to end of Nov, Marymount's booklist will be refected there once they' re ready to take our orders. 😂
Just ordered my book online too and got them to deliver. Now is to hunt for good school bag and black shoes for her. :imcool:
Try Popular for school bags. It's pretty decent.

For shoes, I went to Bata. They have those Bubblegummers ones and their own brand. Fairly decently priced at around $20 a pair.

      Hi Tink.

Yeah, my girl's been doing well with the school bus and the uncle that drives her is a very nice man. I'm so thankful for that.

I'm not too sure about her friends though. I hope so too.

BTW, I just went online to pacific bookstores to see if I could order online but sadly, I couldn't find Marymount under their list. Perhaps they've yet to load it.

I'll try again on another day
Hi,

Finally, the gals got their report book today. Hope everyone is happy with their achievements. Well done! :boogie:

Heard from DDs about the change in the sch's streaming process next yr. Good news for the P1 this yr.....No streaming for them! :rahrah:

Just curious, are the P1 gals allocated to the same P2 classes next yr?

      Hi Tink.

Yeah, I saw my girl's report card and I'm very proud of her.

Yeah, good that streaming only commences on P2. Gives them more room to work on their 3 core subjects.

My girl is going to the same class for P2. I'm not sure about the rest

      Hi fmastuki,
Great to \"see\" you back here again after so long. Is your DD coping with her bus ride?

Congrats to your DD on her achievement. You ought to be proud of her. :rahrah:

Yes, I think it's great that the kids are not streamed in P1. Afterall, it's a year where there are so many adjustments to be made plus having to adapt to a new enviroment.

Good to hear that your DD is allocated to the same P2 class. Hope most of her friends are with her too. 😉
Hi Tink.

      Hi lvkt,
Usually for birthdays, some parents will give out party bags, some parents will invite selected kids (usually better friends) to a birthday party out of sch. Some will do nothing. It's really a personal choice.... it's not compulsory to give party bags or bring a cake in.

However, some parents choose to give party bags to share the joy with DDs' classmates. The party bags will be distributed to the classmates and they will sing a birthday song to the birthday gal. No birthday cakes allowed in the classroom. If you want to bring a birthday cake, let your DD's FT know in advance so she can gather the kids at the canteen during recess.

Recently, for DD2's birthday, I didn't bring a birthday cake in. I just delivered 30 party bags (DD wanted 1 for her FT as well), packed with lots of goodies. 😉

So you brought the 30 party bags and pass it to her FT? Coz it will be too heavy for your DD to carry herself right?

Definitely too heavy for DD2 to carry all the party bags to sch...keke. I asked DD1 to deliver them to her class for me. Last year, DD2's form teacher asked me to drop the party bags at the General Office and she sent 2 gals to collect them from the General Office.

If you intend to deliver the party bags to the class yourself, may be a good idea to inform the FT a few days before via email. Some teachers prefer not to have parents rock up and disrupt lessons.
Hi lvkt

It was my girl's b'day on the 28th Feb. My wife wrote in to her FT and stated our intention. We were advised to bring the cake to the canteen during their recess time.

Both my wife & I took leave yesterday and we also brought in the goody bags with us so that my daughter didn't have to carry anything.

It was quite an experience for us on Monday. We had loads of her classmates & other children from other classes who gathered around the table and they all sang her the birthday song. Then came the chaos......heaps of children gathering round for the cake and the goody bags. :?:

We really didn't mind giving the cakes away to other children but we only had enough goody bags for her classmates and I couldn't tell, for the love of God, who are her classsmates....LOL.

All these had to be done in about 20 mins as the children had to have their proper meal and get ready to go back to class.

I later discussed with my wife that should we do it again for her next year, we'll send the goody bags directly to class just before their recess time and we'll pre cut and pre plate the cakes in the disposable plates before the kids come out for their break. We'll have a smaller cake with candles just for them to sing and for her to blow out the candles and thee children could go on with their cakes right after.

You might wanna consider this as an alternative in case you intend to do something similar.

… if they were at the orientation last sat, I bet they won’t be that mean to us right?

I have to call them and see whether mine is bad or not… sianzzzzz…
I think only MCS knows the reason why they weren’t there last Sat as they were also informed at the 11th hour to not having to be there.

      Good Luck
