As shown in your first picture, the $5,350 is for 2nd gen metal braces. The $3k+ one quoted on their website is for 1st gen metal braces. So it is clear that it is a misunderstanding on your part, as you wrote that the $5,350 quoted to you was for the cheapest metal braces.

1st gen traditional metal braces are the cheapest kind.
2nd gen self ligating metal braces are not the cheapest kind.

So as I correctly guessed in my post, the $5k+ is for the 2nd gen metal braces.

Honestly, this is easy because this is the market rate.
$3k+ for traditional metal braces, the ones that come with colourful rubber bands.
$5k+ for 2nd gen Damon metal braces, they dont use rubber bands because they are self ligating.

Add $1k+ for ceramic brackets that are supposedly more transparent than metal but can stain (no curry for a year), and also not that transparent once you opt for coloured rubber bands.

So you asked for the x rays and the unfriendly counter staff ignored your question? I think the staff is deaf, not unfriendly, but like I’ve said, it doesnt help to get hold of the x ray if you plan to stay or if you plan to use another clinic. Both ways, you dont really need the x ray.
No. the first quote of $5350 is for 1st Generation and $5992 is for 2nd generation. The dentist told me this. I wanted to take a pic of what the dentist wrote but she told me that it would be given to me. I asked for that at the counter and the staff wasn't very friendly. I was told by the dentist to go back and consider which braces I would like to go with. She kept emphasising that the Invisalign is the best. But I am not sure on this.

Hihi, i am currently sourcing for braces for my son. He has overcrowding teeth and its very difficult for him to brush. I have called i.Dental because I saw their promotion online for students at $3,852. I thought it is quite reasonable and went ahead to book an appointment. To my shock, they actually quote me $5350 including GST for the cheapest kind of metal braces. This price is excluding extractions, retainers, etc... so different from their website. I was also told to pay $235.40 for the first consultation but the X-rays weren't given to me. Is this normal? Can I ask for other recommendations because I felt that i.Dental at Ubi is extorting me.

I dont work for iDental but I have a relative who finished the treatment with iDental so I was curious about what you wrote. I went to their website and it does say $3,852 is the student price for 1st gen metal braces. With all due respect, I dont believe that you were eventually quoted an amount so much higher than the $3,852 on their website if indeed the stuff included are the same, like is it for the cheapest kind of metal braces like you said, or is the $5k+ price for the 2nd gen metal braces? Did you question them why it is not $3,852?

Usually the cost of the first consultation and x rays, is offset from the package price when you sign up with the clinic (applies to iDental and many others). If you choose not to sign up with them, then it is sunk cost. X rays can be given to you but I guess you cant do anything with them also. Say if you choose to go with another clinic, they would want to do their own x ray and wont want to use the ones you bring over from another clinic. So having them does not serve any purpose. Did you ask them to give to you? I would imagine if you had asked, they would give.

I did ask but the person at the counter is not very friendly. I guess I was too shock to react at that time and didn't know I have to pay so much for the consultation fee. The dentist was telling me so many things at one time, i need time to consider. The above picture is the quote given to me
