      need help 😞

Both Crystal and Damien received a sum of money. If Crystal had spent the same amount of money per day and Damien had spent three times that amount per day, Damien would have $438 left while Crystal would have spent all her money.
If Damien had spent a certain amount of money and Crystal had spent thrice of that amount in the same number of days, Damien would have $798 left but Crystal would have spent all of her money.
How much money did Damien receive?
Should re-phrase and simplify the question :

      2) Which of the two fractions 1993/1994 and 1995/1996 is larger? Explain the reason without making the denominators of the two fractions the same or converting the fractions into decimals.

Well looking at it from another point of view. Which is smaller? 1/1994 or 1/1996.

      Sun_2010:

Hui Ying hung two objects x and y on two identical springs. Which one of the following statements correctly explains why spring B is longer than spring A after the objects are hung on them?

(Object x is hung on spring A and object y is on spring B)

      1) the mass of object y is more than that of object x.
      2) spring A stretches less than spring B for the same amount of mass.
      3) the elastic spring force acting on object y is less than that acting on object x.
      4) the gravitational force acting on object x is less than that acting on object y.

Ans given is 1. Can the answer be 4? Tia

Answer cannot be 4, gravitational force experienced by all objects are the same. Their weight is affected by the mass.
I think the answer is 4.
The length of a spring depends only on the force acting on it. It doesn't care where the force comes from.

      Agree.
4 is true as 1 is true. So both are correct.

Gravitational force is directly proportional to the mass.
As the mass of object y is more than that of object x, the gravitational force acting on object x is less than that acting on object y.

It's incorrect to say that all objects experience the same gravitational force when in a state of free fall.
What is true is all objects experience the same acceleration when in a state of free fall.

      Wow, quite insightful.
That means the force exerting on each object is zero.
Meaning the net force is zero. The downward force is equal to the upward force. So it doesn't go up or down.

In this case, you can \"see\" the force in the length of each spring.
In free fall, you can \"see\" the force in the acceleration of each object : F = ma
