Quite a lot of tricky qns that appear easy & quite some unique qns; may not suitable for below ave kids but vy gd for those want to score gd A or A*. the answers r very complete too. A very gd book for P5/6 esp bef psle.

• RE: Q&A - PSLE Science

Personally think that it is more important to let kids have strong foundation in Sc by referring to syllabus and using assessment books with typical qns, rather than using school past yr exam papers which hv some beyond syllabus qns (of latest craze? not to allow kids to score 100?!!)

If parents were continue to spoon feed kids with sch past yr papers of the latest craze, sch teachers may think that the kids can cope with these qns (but in fact, the kids hv done the qns bef their exam!!). That’s why some kids sc results were like ‘roller coaster’ --- scored high as they came across the qns bef exam but scored low if otherwise!!!
Always believe that as long as the kids have a good understanding of sc basic concepts, they can also handle the tougher qns in PSLE.
May be we parents should stop pushing kids to do a lot of past yr sch papers just bec of the few 'latest craze' qns which are beyond or out of syllabus but may also appear in their sch exam papers... in order to stop the craze???!!! 😄
Good luck to all p6 kids. All the best.

also like Janet Sim's Process Skills Worksheets ... some OE are in fill-in-the blanks format that make kids more willingly to do the qns. There are quite some 'new' qns in the series too

• RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
Hi

At the end of the 6-yr programme, students will graduate with a NUSH diploma, with no 'O' Level or 'A' Level certs at all, am I right?

What are the student's options if, under extreme unforeseen circumstances, the child performs badly and is not awarded with a diploma. How will the school help the child? Can he take 'A' level then?

Thanks in advance for some advice.

Hi,
For those get into IP sch other than NUSH then hv to worry what if they fail or not do well in their A level exam after 6 yrs. For NUSH, the marks fr Y3 to Y6 contribute to the total score in the NUSH diploma, not only the final exam in Y6. Hence, students are less stressful in Y6 compared to other IP schools' students. That why I prefer mine to get into NUSH as the sys ensures they work consistently thr'out 6 yrs & prevent 'last-min studying'.

For those joining in y1, percentage contributing to GPA of 5 are y1 (10%) Y2 (10%) y3 (20%) y4 (20%) y5 (20%) y6 (20%).

For those joining y3, it is y3 (25%) y4 (25%) y5 (25%) y6 (25%)

Hence NUSH emphasise consistent performance throughout the 6 years and not a single exam situation like \"A\" level. 😄

Thought I read somewhere that the foundation years are not counted at all ?
Hi,
Since 2009, only Y3 to Y6 cap will be counted towards the graduation cap but Y1 & Y2 cap will still be shown in grad transcript.

I have question wrt public transport.

Right now, the only way I know is to take bus #183 at the bus stop at Clementi Station ( opposite Clementi mall ) and alight three stops later along Clementi road and walk abt 250m (after crossing overhead bridge) to get to the Sch.
Any other way? TIA.
There are 2 bus stops (along AYE & off Clementi Road) just seconds out the back gate of NUSH other than the bus stop along Clementi Road. hv buses to Habour Front mrt, Buona Vista or fr Clementi mrts etc.

If the child is talented in Math n Sc, he/she can definitely cope & do well in NUSH. As the ratio of students to teachers is lower than other schools, the teachers can better take care of the students. The teachers are even readily to hv 1:1 makeup if students are absent.

can advise my friend ? ... Thanks v much!

my friend's son (P3 this year) at Henry Park - if offered a GEP place, is it better to stick to HPPS, or transfer him to Nanyang, since both are GEP centres ?

The GEP program would be the same in all the GEP centres. Both HPPS and Nanyang are co-ed & have no affiliated sec school. In my view, there is no difference being in either school, perhaps would come down to convenience of location of school, what sort of school culture is preferred and any perception that one may have on which school has a \"better\" teaching methodology?

Fr what I know, NYPS students can get in NYG & HC with lower PSLE score. I asked \"if I shd let mine went NYPS or Tao Nan\" bef...finally decided to let mine got into NYPS.
