RE: Q&A - PSLE English
krazy:
But it will be so confusing, even if English is evolving there should be clear rules, if not how to teach our kids. I think for singapore schools, they still stick to the correct grammar structure right? (I hope so anyway, if not really very scary)Yes you are right about the language constantly evolving because a lot of answers which were previously not accepted, are now and there are a lot of new words appearing in the dictionary.
I checked with several teachers and they said they would accept the answer without \"than\". But I guess, its important that the children check with the teachers of their schools as to which answers they would accept.
Some teachers I know, especially those who are very concerned with the rules of the language, do not accept the sentence without \"than\", just like they would mark the answer wrong because the answer was not written out in a complete sentence. For example, those \"meaning questions\" - Which word in the paragraph has the same meaning as .....\"
Children are expected to write : \"The word is .... .\"Learning Partners:
But please note that English, like all languages, is constantly growing and evolving. Increasingly, more and more people are dropping the word 'than' in such sentences. Hence it is not unusual to see the third answer in books and even newspapers.
However, in school and especially during the PSLE, it is advisable to get the your child to stick to the conventional answer.
The answer with 'when' is definitely wrong.
Learning Partners
Anyway, who or what is Learning Partners? Is it a teacher or parent or centre? I never heard of Learning Partners so far but I am also not too knowledgeable in this area. -
RE: All About English Creative Writing
Hi TAS,
Could I make a request that you do a grammar workshop for us parents, I did ask one of your teachers about it during the other workshop and she said it might not happen this year, but could you seriously consider it, I find myself getting lost in some of the finer points of grammar and am at a lost as to how to explain the rules.
Your creative writing workshop was really good, detailed, and also it gave a very comprehensive overview as to how to go about teaching writing to my kids. I learnt so much in just those 2 lessons. I know the grammar workshop would also be very good. And if possible, could my child join in as well? -

ALAMAK!! too late, I thought since he is in K1, there is still time.Hellokitty2:
Do you know how early we can start doing PV? Must all the house be clocked in one year or can be be spread over 2 years?
Was your child born in 2005? If so, it's too late to apply for PV now. Application is now closed for those registering next year.
So wasted. Now looks like I must pump with tuition like DS1.
Thanks qms, anyway. too bad I dont have a third child if not I will
know what to do next time, sign up for PV when he is 3! -
RE: All About Delayed Speech
kash313:
Hi kash313,hi,
i was of same opinion till now but last week my son had term end class presentation and to my utter disappointment during group drama out of 10 children only 2 were good rest were either quiet or busy in there own world like my son was just running around.
during personal presentation too the same 2 kids were audible others including my son was so slow that i couldnt hear a word.
at home he plays drama byself and at that time he is very impressive but in front of crowd he couldnt perform at all although he has been going to Lorna whiston since 6 mths. i would consider 1 more term otherwise will dicontinue the classes if its not effective at all.
I found that Julia Gabriel was effective for my DS, he is the type who talks a lot at home but clams up in front of a crowd but I sent him for a holiday programme at Julia Gabriel followed by 2 terms and I found that there was improvement, at least now he can talk freely, may not be your super confident type but now at least does not blush, will speak up and can give a normal presentation in front of class. -

The Alternative Story:
Hi TAS,
Hi notfreemom,
For our East location, (if we do have one), we are starting with
2 classes first. So far, there is more demand for P2 and P4 so
we are probably starting with those 2 levels first. We might
have another slot that is purely on creative writing for P1.
If you are interested still, you could let us know so we
can put you on the waiting list.
TAS
Did you put me on the waiting list for P2 also

RE: [Marine Parade] Primary Schools
tokyo:
any information abot TKP
Hi tokyo,
My older boy is in TKPS, I am not putting my younger one in there as I want a school that is a bit more academic for him, in the sense that it pushes him academically. For TKPS, I feel they do not do that enough. However, what I like about TKPS is the wide range of CCAs, they have bowling, cricket, golf.
And there are many students there from Korea, from all over the world actually so DS gets to interact with them, I like the multi-national feeling.
But I still wish it is more chiong in studies like Tao Nan, so it depends on what you want.
