      GreenA:
Some of my daughter's friends are from photography club and infocomms club. They have only one training per week. But prior experience are required to get into these clubs. For photography, candidates are assigned a task. They need to take a number of shots and submit photos within 2 hours of time. For infocomms club, candidates need to submit portfolios of past projects.

Actually all CCAs are supposed have at least 2 trainings a week now, this includes photography club. Not sure about the Infocomm club tho. Photography club members are also deployed to cover the school events like alng and slmkhoo have shared, as well as participate in national competitions and put on exhibitions, so it's not exactly a very \"slack\" CCA since a lot of the work is not actually done during CCA time but more of outside CCA time.
Personally, I feel that all CCAs are all quite demanding in their own ways, just that some CCAs' work are more widely known and recognised.

How is shooting CCA in RGS?

      From a Friend:
Shooter from rgs here haha. In shooting we train using 2 types of guns the rifle and the pistol. You don't get to choose which gun you want (its based on the trials) and basically we take turns shooting at the lanes, and we have breaks in between sessions where the shooters can talk or do work or sleep (this time is important for us to bond with our cca mates, as training time is individual) Although we are a sports cca, we do much less physical activities compared to other sports ccas haha (we still have to do short physical trainings though!)

Hopefully this gives you a better insight on RGS shooting!! :))

Hi can anyone tell me if there is wifi available to the girls in school?

There's wifi but only for the computers! Phones can't connect and it's quite inconvenient T.T

      Hi

I am looking at the y1 booklist and wondering if to buy all books and compulsory items Art materials. can anyone with experience advise? Thank you.
Hi! It's advisable to buy every book under the subjects that you're taking. As for Art materials, it's up to you whether to buy or not, but most (or all) of the materials will come in helpful for Y1 and Y2. Hope this helped!

Hi it's highly recommended to use Mac although I do see one or two people using other models. There is a basic training course for everyone so don't worry! Most people are using Mac for the first time and the functions are really easy to learn.

Also rolling up of sleeves is a school tradition that goes way back so it's compulsory... It takes only a few seconds and also since we're the only school that has this tradition it kind of marks us as RGS. šŸ™‚ hope this helped!

Does the gep class do different thing from non gep class? Does the gep class take the same exam?

      No and yes.

? I was in a GE class and as far as I know, we did the same things as Non GE classes as well as exams and everything. The only thing different is that GE class averages are slightly higher than non GE classes...

Hey honeyfirebird, thanks fr the info.. I guess my Dd prefer the sports Cca, but worried she will be too tired to concentrate & cope with the studies. Anyway wats the standard timing tat u gals leave sch? & during cca days..

I knw every thurs the sch start a bit latr.., i hope she doesn't hv to stay too late till the evening... Many thanks..
      Hi!
Um the dismissal time actually varies from day to day depending on the timetable, but it's around 1:50. On Wednesdays Year Ones are dismissed at around 1.
CCA formally ends at 5:30PM and is at least twice a week, but depending on your CCA it could be anytime from 4PM to 6:30PM or even 7PM.
On Fridays dismissal is at 12:55, unless she's taking third language, then it would end at 5:45.
      Hope this helped!
(If your DD really likes sports CCA then go for it! Better to pursue her interest then do a CCA she hates...)

Anyone care to share the activities involved in the Girl Guides cca? Is it twice per wk?

I was told the waiting list is pretty long fr this cca... The cca my DD prefer is not in rgs...
      Hi!
I'm not in girl guides but according to what my friend told me, it is twice a week. Every two weeks or maybe once a month (not sure about this) they tie braids. The rest of the time their hair is tied into a bun I think!
I usually just see them learning how to make knots, or lashing wooden structures together. Occasionally the year 3s would also split firewood with an axe. I THINK Year 1s learn the knots, year 2s raise the flag during national anthem, year 4s just pass on the knowledge...
Every batch in Guides is around 20 people? But yes quite a lot of people would apply.
They have patrol groups too with a Year 4 in charge but I'm not sure what they do...
      Hope this helped!

For Sci, DD is ok w Physic.

Not so sure abt Chem, but heard Bio under Mr De Souza was good.

One thing I find it cumbersome is the sch uniform. Can't the sch adopt culotte and PE shirt for 4 days and having the 1 day for pinafore and blouse for official assembly? For PE, still have to wear back blouse w pinafore. Confusing as well when odd and even weeks kick in.

Can take NUSH as a good example.
      Hi!
RGS actually has the change in uniform because it's very unhygienic to stay in the sweaty PE shirt for the whole day. Another reason is professionalism which is one of the school's core values. Anyways I agree that the odd and even week timetables are confusing, but this issue of whether it's possible to not change out of PE has been hotly debated for years but we're still no where close to any resolving of the issue, so I would suggest just try to get used to it! It'll become a habit before long šŸ™‚
A good way is to write odd and even week on calendar and memorise the days for PE šŸ˜„

Thanks Honeyfirebird. What about school shoes? Do they have to be white? Or are sports shoes allowed, in certain colors only?[/quote]

School shoes can have different colours in it as long as 80% of the shoe is white. Also the rubber part surrounding the sole of the shoe must be white. (not sure how to describe that part šŸ˜ž basically its the part that is nearest to the ground when you walk hahahahha)
Oh yea and socks must be visible at all angles too! Actually more information will be given during the orientation days so yeah can listen out for more info XD
