Blobbi:hquek, you are brutally honest. Hats off to you!My wish is that kids learn all they need in the 6 hours of school so that they can come home and pursue whatever interests they have. How wonderful it is to be able to grow your own interests at your own time! As adults, we don't have that luxury because we have to make a living - only children and the retired (with sufficient $$ in the bank account) have that sort of time to begin with. It seems too wishy washy - what good can pursuing your own interests do? But if you like something enough, you will look for ways to play with ideas in your head, and that really is the foundation of creativity and excellence. But the reality as you point out is that we have to prime our kids for school, and the standards are tough! My son only has Chinese tuition and nothing else now. But let me say this (out loud for my own ears!), I won't hesitate to put him into a class if he needs it. At some point, ideals and prudence have to coincide.hehe, thanks for the 'compliment'. But honestly, I had a tutor in my early years in school and did extremely well - then come P6 when I had a change of tutors, immediately my results went into freefall....did abysmally for psle - although life has been good to me, I cannot forget that lasting mark. You forgot to add \"those who kena toto (at least in the early years)\" can have that sort of time. Seriously, much as can be said for the allowances we should make for their youth (ie let them play while they can), thing is I do want my kid to be prep and ready for school. Don't have to be the top child....but certainly spare me the trauma of coming in last.
