Any DS went to support the Annual final Tracks & Field Championship at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium? It's compulsory for all Sec 1 right? U know they sent them there but left them wandering home by themselves due to technical faults according to Mr Toks. Some of the boys were lost in the rain luckily a few secondary school students direct them the ways? Dun u find it v irresponsible of the school to do so!

Did the school apologise to the boys for the messed up? They are good for threatening with demerit points to the boys and maybe they should give themselves some this time. LOL!

The transport arrangement was a mess, I agree. The heavy rain made it worse. DS told me there were supposed to be 2 batches (don't know how many buses for each) - one leaving cck at 6.45pm and the other at 7.45pm. Many of the students opted for the first and was led, in the rain, to the pick up point. They were then moved to a HDB void deck where they were told that due to miscommunication they would have to wait for the later bus. The teacher-in-charge then gave the students the option of taking public transport home (and directions I think). About half the group left but majority turned back after they found that the public bus was too crowded. That was 720pm. Then a bus turned up and they got all excited, went after it but found it was not theirs. So they continued to wait till around 745pm and found that the bus was \"there\" (not sure where) all the while but after they boarded, they could not find the driver. It was only around 8.05pm that they finally set off. I got live coverage from DS whilst I was in the car, crawling at snail pace along PIE from Kallang exit towards bukit timah 🙂

      Hi Jeannie12

There were 2 test results for my son.
Maybe you need to check with the teacher.
However, teachers don't seem to reply to emails much.
My son has emailed his teacher twice about other matters. She hasn't been replying.

Just want to ask: do your teachers reply to your son's questions via email?
I am quite disappointed with some of the teachers who don't seem to reply even to urgent emails about missed work etc. What is the school policy on this?
yogaqueen, thanks. My son did encounter similar situation with no reply from the teachers but I advised him to approach them in school instead.

Does anyone know if there are more than 1 test plus assignment for the subject how do they get aggregated ? Eg I noticed that for language arts there are 2 assignments and a test which adds up to >100%. Thanks.

I was very worried about the computer usage before when a senior pre-warned me about the amount of time her son spent on computer gaming in sec 1 & 2. I was told, when her DS was allowed to bring his notebook to school in sec 2, the kids started to hangout at nearby fast food chain to play. Also with smart phones, it becomes harder to supervise the undesirable websites they go to. Luckily or unlikely this year in sec 3, the workload has increased so much that her DS has no time to continue with his ‘nonsense’, as she puts it.

I do not think checking EMB takes up that much time as there are no more than 5 messages a day and most do not require any response. What needs supervision is the use of facebook. It is a distraction as messages keep popping up every other second, many of which are non productive / undirected discussions. One just cannot focus when in the middle of work, the phone keeps beeping or vibrating. For that I set firm rules, no messing around with the phone in the middle of a piece of work. Any questions or doubts if help is needed should be clarified before or after at one go.

Other than that, there is very little else we can do to reduce computer time. Doing up notes, putting up ppts, researching or working on IS related projects, they all take time. I would rather they put in good effort than to rush to complete them.

      mum.com:
For parents/DS who are going to appeal for their CCA :nunchuk:

You may have already seen this (EMB).. regarding appeal for CCA.

      To appeal for another CCA:
      - Go to SALT Centre, PE Office, and collect an Appeal Form
      - Deadline for submission of appeal form is 24 Feb (Friday)
      - Outcome of appeal will be by week 9.

Meanwhile, DS(es) will still have to report to their allocated CCA till the appeal outcome is out.
Hi mum.com, do you know if the probability of an appeal getting through is high ?

mum42, could you share with us how the CCA allocation works ? Considering there are 400 over students, do the exco members go student by student to decide which CCA wants to take in each one ?

Hi Jeannie12 , DS only told me briefly when I picked him last nite that all CCA excos already have a list of boys they wanted , if d boy is only short listed by one CCA then he will automatically post to that CCA but if d boy is short listed by two or more CCA then see which excos is faster n list out why d boy is more suitable in that CCA. Yes, they go by one consortium at a time that why so time consuming . When he reach home , he went straight to bed after bathing without touching any homework

      :thankyou: mum42

      yamatomato:

I can't agree more. I find the whole CCA allocation process very cut-throat. Just wonder why they could not let the kids have a sports CCA that is purely recreational. While it is mentioned that for those who could not get into the sports that they want, there are many avenues/opportunities that they can still enjoy and play their sports/games like during recess time etc, I still think that the whole system is 'not' right. Children at their age should be given the opportunity to join a sport they are keen and from there they may be able to grow and develop with the help of a coach.

Anyway, can someone tell me more about the UGs. Would like to know major diff among scouts, NPCC and ST John ambulance. We were thinking of putting scouts as 1st choice but just realize that other than Fri, they need to go back for training on Sat morning as well. Is that true? For the rest of the UGs, understand the 2 trainings (min) are all on weekdays.

      Thanks
Same thoughts yamatomato! For instance Victoria has school team versus non school team for table tennis. One trains twice and the other three times. In any case if the child is in the right CCA he will willingly go 3 times a week rather than drag his feet to one that he dreads.

I have a couple of questions on UG as well. The CCA booklet did not include the training days for NPCC, does anyone know the details ? Scouts stated camps every holiday. Is that for real ?
