Hi all, sorry I am just back to this site after a long break and suddenly notice so many people response to my query, a big :thankyou: to all.

Pls allow me to clarify, am I right to say that at NJC, all students will have a equal chance to experience the highly subsidized boarding program? It is part of their program? Whereas in HCI boarding programe is only open to certain students and to join volunteering need to pay a lot? I am keen at NJC due to the gov rate as I am unsure how long I can support the expensive independent school fee. One more question about NJC,pls. what is the population of primary GEP students there like? Do they have a seperate program?

If your child is a GEPer and he gets promoted to Sec GEP, his fees are highly subsidized up to $2400 per year. If does very well in PSLE, he is entitled to EESIS which also subsidized up to $2400 per yr. Each child only 1 form of subsidy. The Raffles schs are the most expensive and parents would need to pay abt $100 per month after subsidy. However there is financial help available. For the other indept schs, fees are much lower and you end up paying abt the same as the govt sch if your son qualifies for GEP promotion/ EESIS.

That is, fees should not be a detering factor. Choose the school that best suit your child.

Well, the school's outcomes (A level results and other achievements) will speak for itself and dispel all the rumours. It is still a choiced school for many parents and students.

The non-gepers are apparently kids with high PSLE score- >270, I think.

Gifted Education is not an elective programme, hence its free.

GEP or not,you still need to pay the balance of the fees after $2400 subsidy. There's no longer full subsidy for GEP prog from MOE. The subsidy is capped at $2400. RI and RGS students need to pay $1200 per yr on their own.

Does anyone knows if CA and SA1 marks are counted in P6's prelim T-score ? I understand that in case a child misses PSLE exam, MOE will use the prelim score for sec 1 placement, correct ?

Most schs do not include CA and SA1 in Prelims. But you acn check with your child's sch.

My child will be taking her PSLE this year.
She is taking 3 standard subjects and 1 foundation maths (decided by the school).

I am worried that with this combination, her T-score will be low even though she may do well in EL, CL and Sc. Just because when the foundation maths marks add to the other 3 subjects, it will pull the overall marks down. May I right to say that? Roughly any idea what the marks range will be?

Or should I appeal to the school and switch her to standard maths after her CA1 in Mar? New additional topics covered for standard Maths to-date are alegbra and nets.

Did your child do very badly for Math? The concern is also if she does well for the other three and makes it to Express stream or even NA, she will find Math a real struggle. If she is not that bad for Math (>30 marks), may be she should do std math.

Rubrics are given for all performance tasks and at the beginning, not when the child is supposed to hand out. That is expected, otherwise how would the student know what is the std of work.


My girl is in Sec 1 now. After a while, you don’t get too anxious. The GEPers are resilient, they will finally be able to cope. If you want your child to gain from doing the tasks, don’t provide too much guidance.

Didn’t attend the Parents Meeting. Was looking through the parents’ slides and saw that there are collage classes in P3. Last years’ prog looks really interesting. What are these classes all about? Are they meant for the potentially gifted kids? Are there more who got into GEP from last yrs’ 3I and 3J? Do they re-select collage kids for P4?


BTW, how are children allocated into different P3 classes in NYPS?

My daughter only got 237 +2 and she is offered third language too.

Her t score is pulled down by maths, maths has always been her weakness and feared subject. Tried all tutors and ways to take away her fear from maths but i guessed it didnt succeed.

According to my child's P, top 10% is 250 and above. Top 30% is 230 and above.
