RE: 2023 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2011)

In last year’s psle Sci exam, my DD’s answer to mosquitoes and waste question is regarding the warmth, food etc for eggs. I told her it was wrong and she should think it more deep towards the direction of decomposition and carbo dioxide. It turned out that I am the one who think too “deep”.
FWIW, I had a look through the 2022 Math & Science PSLE papers (already available in print at Popular). What one parent said (can’t remember which thread in KSP) is true: last year’s Math Paper 2 wasnt terribly difficult. But it was Paper 1 that contained some differentiator qns. This may have thrown off some usually-AL1 kids. Or they may have not thought - as according to tradition - that Paper 1 qns would be tricky (and ended up tricked).
Similarly with the Science qn on the outdoor toilet & why mosquitoes were attracted to the waste container. It was tough - in the sense that no further info was provided in the qn. The concept tested was not from an expected topic that most P6 kids are drilled on. I believe it was a P3 lower-block concept that living things need Warmth, Oxygen, Water to survive.
After having taken a look, I am satisfied that my child’s PSLE results indeed matched his ability to answer the 2022 papers.
By all means, find some tuition centres that drill on the differentiator qns. But just be aware that SEAB is always one step ahead of any drilling method. Their papers have no established reliable trend as they always have some new tricks to pick out the true AL1s.
Since chatGPT is so hot recently, I tested it on this question. It gave me the same “popular” answer as what I told her. So even the most advanced AI engine could not pass our psle exam

My DD also improved in EL, Sci also got improved. Although she complained these two papers are harder.
My fren’s daughter’s science also fell from AL1 to AL3. Her science is usually AL1 every term, she even got top in cohort for science. So her AL3 was a complete shock to her too.
Mine more or less maintained for math, science and Chinese but improved in English. English was the shocker for us, totally unexpected. -

May I ask where to buy the school uniform of NYGH? As we are not S1 student yet, can we just go to the school shop to buy? Thanks.
Yes, of course u can start buying school uniform now, if your kid have accepted the Secondary school's CO. Don't wait until December then start to buy because by then, very crowded, or maybe the size that your kid want is out of stock, because so many people are buying by then, as brand new year 2023 school Term 1, Sec 1, open -

Thank you.
Congratulations for the CO! Do you mind sharing her profile? Any awards?
She is in a SHHK school and consistently received overall AL7 (AL1 for CL and AL2 for EL) since P5. She loves Chinese compo writing and usually can get 37/38 out of 40 for Chinese compo during exams.
For awards, she only received a 1st place award once from one inter-schools Chinese compo competition in P5.
I guess she did well in the selection test and interview although she thought the opposite

Received NYGH Bilingualism CO this morning. Didn’t expect it as DD thought she didn’t do well during interview

RE: 2014 P1 Registration Exercise for 2015 In-Take
If anybody wants to know, Teck Ghee all SCs in.
heng!
i am glad i didn't try for ATS in the end..
Gd luck Purplepea!
I also registered my son in Teck Ghee today.
The past two weeks I was like in the boiling water. Initially We registered our son in catholic high instead of ATS during p2b as we had thought 1-2km got no chance in ATS based on past years statistics. However it turned out that this year there is still one slot available for 1-2km in ATS. Fine, then we think we still have good chance to get a slot in CH as we stay within 1km as the balloting chance is as high as 92%. However, the luck is not with us and we were balloted out.
Today after 3 days struggling, we decided not to try our luck again in CH( there are 37 people fight for 23 seats). Finally we settled down with teck ghee. Hope this time we've made a right decision.
