P5G:
Please help.

http://www.orlesson.org/orp/09En/P5-English-SA2-CHS.pdf

Q40) Should the answer be 'and' instead of 'but' as given in the worksheet.

The storm was not as bad as feared (40) _____ the people were glad that they had taken action in time.

But 'and' has been used for Q36.

Q59) Is 'the' acceptable? The worksheet answer is 'his'.
Hello P5G,
I will explain Q59) first. Regarding Q59), \"his\" is the most appropriate answer.
\"since the Graduation Day\"-whose graduation?
\"since his Graduation Day\"-since the young man's graduation
Therefore, the answer is \"his\" šŸ˜„

Q40) Although I am not sure about it, i think the explanation is:
The people had taken action in time, but it turned out that the storm was not as bad as they thought it was.
Thus, the answer is \"B\"(but) šŸ˜„

Hope this helps you!

atutor2001:
Hi,

The answer is (2)

I got there. Past tense
Bala had left. Past Perfect (or I call it past past - the past of past tense)

Hi

I think (1) should also be ok.

However, the meaning will be different i.e. when \"I\" reached the office, I saw Bala leaving the library.

I got there. Past tense
Bala had left. Past Continuous

atutor2001 is correct. the answer should be \"was leaving\".

Past perfect is used when referring to certain event before a past moment.

Foe example,

Bala had left the library before I got there.
Bala had left the library by the time I got there.
Bala had already left when I got there.

When events/actions refer to a single moment like in this case, past continuous, \"was leaving\" is the appropriate choice.

Bala was leaving the library when I got there.
Yes , I agree with ifruit. I think that (2) can be used if the word \"already\" was put behind the word \"library\". šŸ˜‰

• RE: Do you kids eat Brown Rice ?

I bought the Blue Elephant brand red brown rice for my kids. No need to soak. Cook as per normal white rice. If you want softer, add more water.
