    • RE: All About Math Olympiad Training & Questions

      Boomerangzzzz:
I am a complete newbie in this area and hope to get some recommendations of Math centers / tutors for my child. He really loves Mathematics and has been asking for additional math classes for many months. He is in lower primary, but can grasp primary school math textbook concepts couple of years ahead. Is there any math center that you would recommend that would continue to spark his interest in Math? Looking more at IQ math / math olympiad style training. Quick google brings up Math Hub and Math Oasis, does anyone have feedback on these two centers or any other newer centers? Many Thanks.

      Hi Parents!

We are a tuition centre located at Clementi. We do train children on advanced mathematics questions, i.e. Math olympiad questions! šŸ™‚ If you are keen, you can sign up a free trial lesson for your child before enrolling with us.

All our tutors are local university graduates and have experience in teaching for many years. Please feel free to check us out at http://www.kimnyou.com.sg or email us at [email protected].

      Cheers! šŸ™‚

    • RE: Q&A - P1 English

      Dear Parents,

To do well in English, it is essential for your child to read more! When he/she stumbles upon word that he/she doesn't know, it is essential to install the skill of checking the meaning for it. Reading helps in many ways. It not only ignite the hunger for knowledge, it also enhances their grammar and vocabulary skills.

      We hope it helps! šŸ™‚

      Hi Parents,

There are a lot of useful videos online that you can use to teach your child Chinese. We will always recommend to learn through song because that is when they are interested to know all the lyrics. By learning the lyrics, they will pick up Chinese characters which they do not know.

      We hope it helps! šŸ™‚

    • RE: All About Grooming & Encouraging Good Reading Habits

      Hi Parents,

It is essential to cultivate an interest in all your kids before encouraging them to memorise some good phrases and paragraphs.

To kickstart their interest, you can pick a few interesting books from the National library and tell them which sentence(s) is/are beautifully written. In that way, you also teach your child how to appreciate a piece of article / a storybook.

Because learning shouldn't be expensive and all children deserve the best!

National library is a good place as children get bored with old books very soon.

      We hope it helps!

      Cheers!

    • RE: Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes

      Hi Parents,

MOE teachers do not really imply that they are good tutors. MOE teachers are just holding a teaching diploma. Therefore, it is better to look for tutors who have university certificates and have experience teaching! šŸ™‚

    • RE: All About Math Olympiad Training & Questions

      Hi Parents!

It is quite easy to train your child to be equipped with a mind that can think out of the box. There are a lot of math questions from China that are similar to our Math Olympiad. So all you all have to do is to get a few of those online resources and let your child do it.

so much homework everyday for prelim. can't imagine what the load will be for psle :nailbite:

I wonder whether all these homework get marked and mistakes explained. DD did about 10 math revision papers these 2-3 weeks but none has been returned! I find that teachers are stressing and tiring the poor kids and quantity does not equate quality! Talk about diminishing returns. Sigh. 🤷

      Hi Parents!

That's true. Only responsible teachers will finish marking and return soonest. There is no point giving them papers but did not go through what kind of mistakes they made. In that way they will only keep on making the same mistakes.

Our approach is we will always do one set and go through it before doing another. Our students have drastically improve by at least 40 marks within two months. So it is really depending on the type of teacher/tutor you get.

      Cheers!

All the best for all your children's PSLE! šŸ™‚

    • RE: When does your children start to study by themself?

      Hi Parents!

To make a child study on his/her own, you have to first trigger an interest in them.

      How to trigger?
      Reward-base system

If they perform well, give them a verbal compliment. If they perform not up to your standard, tell them how disappointed you were and encourage them to do better. Tell them that you believe in them and that no question is a stupid question.

It is also essential to share with them the ''fishing story\".
Tell them that you/teacher can feed them with knowledge but one day all humans will pass away.
He/She has to learn to acquire knowledge on their own.

Kids will not get it the first time. All you have to do is to repeat relentlessly.

Cheers! We hope it helps! šŸ™‚
