Chinese is actually a major factor in my decision since I want to improve do that makes nanyang a better option in that aspect, but it’s important for me to have a multi racial society since I’m a Indian Chinese mix. I’m aware that most of you here are parents, but I’ve heard what my seniors have to say and it’s really quite biased. I was hoping that since most parents help their children select a school you all might be able to help me make a better choice based on a better criteria. My cousin chose her school because the uniform was nice. I don’t want to make decisions like that so I wanted to tap in on the wisdom of the parents.

Nah, I’m not really that smart. It was a miracle that both schools accepted me. Once RGS moves it will be much closer to my house, and I don’t really mind the construction. I took these into consideration as well when making my choice. I’ve been asking around to see if anyone has studied there to find out more about the school culture, which is pretty important to me. When I first transferred from my old school I had a lot of trouble adjusting because the culture was so different and I was the only girl who was selected for the GEP in my school that year so I didn’t know anyone in my new school. So school culture wise, RGS is more sisterhood based, but nanyang seems less competitive.

Currently I take modern dance, again as part of the school team and used to be part of our school’s one year debate programmed. I intend to take debate as my CCA but I’m not really sure if that helps much since both schools have strong debate teams. Currently k might be leaning a bit more to RGS as it will give me a more global kind of education rather than just China centric, though I u deist and nygh also has international partners that are not China.

I've been given a confirmed offer in both nanyang and rgs and I'm not really sure which to choose. I really like the rgs curriculum and the sisterhood culture, but I'm not exactly the kind that opens up and speaks easily which might be a problem for me in rgs. I want to improve my chinese so nanyang might be a better option but I'm not really sure about the culture. Based on what I have read from this forum, I'm in that weird in between spot. Not the stereotypical raffles girl but not the stereotypical nanyang girl. Choosing is going to be hard.

I'm a student from RGPS in GEP and got a confirmed offer from nanyang and raffles. Congratulations to everyone who got a confirmed offer from their dream school! Just to let everyone know so far in the GEP students from my school most of us got confirmed offers from raffles with 2 rejects and one waiting list. From nanyang we have a lot more waiting lists and a few rejects and confirmed offers.

How many P6 pupils from 3 Rgps classes (6P, 6Q, 6R) : receive RGS Secondary CO or WL ?

I can't give an exact figure but I'm sure among the 60+ of us only around 2-3 were rejected or shortlisted. The rest got a confirmed offer.

This DSA has been a tumultuous and arduous journey and I am so glad that after this year, I have no more primary school children. All I want to say is that for parents who are hot-housing their children into GEP thinking that it is a free ticket to DSA, please think again. It is so not true.


Although the outcomes have been positive for my family, I really feel for my DS's classmates who received only waitlists or were rejected. I am close to tears looking through some of the messages in my DS's whatsapp group. They are in an environment where they/their parents place certain expectations on themselves and they cannot understand why their friends have COs and they don't. Sometimes I feel, being in GEP makes it even more difficult for them to secure a CO as every school is second guessing that they would prefer another school and thus hold back on the COs for more MS kids.

If you are the parent of these GEP kids who did not get a CO, please shower them with lots of love and help them to stay confident. These are not the kids who cannot make it in GEP, I know them personally and they are above average, mature, conscientious and really take ownership of their lives. So the results are extremely puzzling. My only consolation is that I know they are determined and will still do well enough for PSLE to gain entry to their choice school.

What you say is really true. GEP isn't a confirmed way of getting into your dream school. It's really sad to see all my juniors getting sent for all kinds of tuition in order to get into gep just so they can get into a \"elite\" school. All my friends who didn't get a place are geniuses and I'm sure they will do great in PSLE and I believe that is the same for everyone else who didn't get a confirmed offer

Yes it was the same for us. Especially so for nanyang. Some of the girls who consistently top the class got waiting listed or rejected so it was a big surprise.
