10 years ago my peers stayed in same HDB estate as me. Now some in landed, some in condominium.

6 years ago my peers upgraded to BMW. I am still driving a peasant Jap car
3 years ago my peers kids entered elite IP schools. My kids missed by 15 points. This is so unfair. MOE should allow all kids to enter IP schools and not deprive any of IP education. Similarly, 100% should be allowed to enter university.

I am indeed sooooo sooo sooo unhappy.

Indian:
Hi I new here my husband without fail always goes out at 10pm not to drink but meet his new found friends and be home by 3am. It has been 10 month and I am very badly effected by his habit. Just need to speak out.

Cannot understand......
- no alcohol/no woman/no husband-wife relationship issue.
- he spends 2.5hours with you first then next 4-5 hours with others into the wee morning.
- you claim no sleep issue. Willing to wait for him for supper then sleep. Confident that he will come back to you. But badly affected by his habits???

I also rec'd a call this morning whether to accept or not which is a religion sch. Feel in dilemna because the vp of this current sch asked my kid to give a gentleman promise not to transfer anymore. Ask me to decide in an hour. How to contact my kid.

\"a gentleman promise\" from a big group of pupils? sounds so obligatory. We are not obligated to keep such promise if you think the appealed school is one that you and your child really prefer.

jm2c.

Meaning you have appealed and transferred into current school?
Sch is asking for your commitment - accepting yours likely mean another child lost his/her appeal.

This year PSLE COP is heading towards the direction - 'Every School is a Good School' - as what our top man says.

😄

Yes

Much easier to enter an IP school now (compared to the past)

Easier? How?
Are you saying that now those who enter IP are not top 10% anymore?
If accordingly, top 10% has been adjusted to 249 this year, it is still top 10%. Pls do not use the absolute t-score in different years as comparison.

Don't be so sensitive lah....this word just came to my mind as I composed the message as 3Boys gives me the impression that he were \"fighting\" some of the forummers.

Typically within a 1 km radius, there would a couple of schools available. If all schools are good schools, does the non-alumni bother whether if the other school is a 100m more away ?

If I may state my understanding, 3boy did PV at Fairfield and NanHua. Why only these 2 schools ? There were other schools in the vicinity such as New Town, Clementi, Queenstoen, Pei Tong, Qifa to mention a few which he could easily have gotten in by distance without having to PV.

Is it because they are \"branded\" schools ?

It's all in the name. It's all personal pride. It sounds better when pp ask, where are your sons from?

Nan hua. Fairfield.
Response: Oh, that's a good school!
Beaming with pride.

Queenstown, New Town.
Response: Erm...ok. Where are they?

No wonder must fight so hard to keep the priority.
Can imagine the shame & loss in pride if the child lose that precious place to undeserving non-alumni.

😂 So nice! I wish my kids' school also teaches 弟子规! Can share which title your kid is using in school? I bought the comic 哥妹俩 version for them as DS likes the series. It feels weird for me to try and tell them they should respect their parents. So if schools can teach, we can reinforce all these messages. For some reason, when schools do reinforce all the things on character building that is being taught at home, it is more effective. In school, they will say, \"我妈妈也是这么说\" ; at home, they say, \"我的老师也是这么说“。 Perhaps it is a need to feel accepted by a bigger majority that convinces them on what is right. 🤷 When such values are well driven in, they are less likely to be swayed by peers, I feel.
Core values should start from home & by example.

My previous post about using adjectives to desc people, my original intention was to encourage refraining of using degrading adjectives.

To me, there is a vast difference between 披着羊皮的狼 and 狼吞虎咽

:hi5:

There is a vast difference to me too.

Just like 狗嘴里长不出象牙, it is not a nice adjective to use on people. I hope no one is going to use that on any of the forummers here.

Big difference especially for one with that kind of high command of Chinese.
Acknowledgement of inappropriate words used would have suffice.
Interesting sharing. So your centre is one of the 'elite' centers? We know why R schools are considered elite, because of their high COPs. For CC, what makes one 'elite'? Is it related to its teaching or just the size of the CC?

Just curious.

errr...'elite' coz most if not all parents are professionals (wives usually SAHM) - business people, lawyers, doctors, scientists, high level execs, etc. They stay in 'high class' areas and my fees are also 'high class' (coz my rent also 'high class' level).

errr 2...I don't have any 'NSKs' in my centre (except for staff's kiddos).

errr 3...I am not priding myself to run an 'elite' centre. It just happened to be like this.

PS:
See how most of the kids celebrated their small birthdays can more or less confirm they are the 'elites' (think the most expensive birthday cake I've ever seen was a close to $500 cake, shape of a tall castle. Looked nice but really tasted yucky...)

Got it.
I dun.
Charge 'high class' fees.
Pay 'high class' rents
Target Clients obviously 'high class' elites.
The kids probably 'elites' with SAHMommies rich enough to not work.
