    • RE: Dental Braces

Just to share with parents whose kids are experiencing underbite issue. My daughter has underbite and overcrowding issues, so after her psle, we went to see an orthodontist who advised her to wait til aft 16 years old to do a jaw surgery and fix her braces, subsequent 2 orthodontists we went to said the same thing. Determined to avoid this painful and costly surgery, I searched further online and chanced upon this blogger’s post who recommended Dr Timothy Lim from Q&M bugis: https://jeangan.wordpress.com/tag/qm-dental/

We went to seek Dr Lim’s opinion and thankfully he told us it’s possible to avoid the surgery and my daughter can put on braces a few months after wearing an expander to create space on her upper jaw. Within 2 years after my daughter wear braces, her underbite and overcrowding issue is solved. I would highly recommend seeking Dr Lim’s opinion if the only option your orthodontist gave for underbite is to go through jaw operation after your child turns 16. Dr Lim is very experience, polite and patient. The charges are reasonable too.

Below image is my daughter’s initial & 1.5yrs after wearing braces.

Anyone enrolled in the novena centre? My 4.5 year old went for the open house trial cum assessment on 12 Nov and enjoyed it very much. Til today still keep asking me why I did not sign her up. I only sat in for around 15mins of the lesson b4 parents are invited to another room to view a presentation of their programme. Throughout this 15mins, there is alot of interaction btw the teacher and kids and they are very eagar to participate in the activities and answer the questions teacher asked. No hard-selling at the end of the trial, they just ask you which timeslot you prefer and will notify you if there is any available class.

    • RE: [Ang Mo Kio/Bishan/Thomson/Toa Payoh] Preschools

Anyone interested in My First Skool (cc by NTUC) at Bishan Blk 153? My 2yo gal is in already in the toddler class and my 4yo in Zion Bishan Kindergarten (going to rebuild next yr) nearby. The school is newly opened on 1st Aug 11. I plan to put my 4yo in their K1 next year but the principal told me that there wasn't enough students to form a K1 class as their current intake is only up til N1 this year.

There are already 4 students on the K1 waiting list and they just need another 2-3 more students to form the class. So far, my 2yo enjoys going to the school and the K1 classroom at the other side is very nice and still brand new! See attached pic.

If any parents staying in bishan interested, please contact the principal at [email protected] or visit the centre at Blk 153 Bishan St 13. School fee is also very reasonable at just $340+ a month after working mum subsidy.

    • RE: [Ang Mo Kio/Bishan/Thomson/Toa Payoh] Preschools

      Hi,

Just want to do some justice to Zion Bishan. My girl is in the N1 class since beginning of this year and she was the one who took longest to settle down (ard 2 months then stop crying). However, her teachers are still very patient and caring towards her and will update me on her progress when I fetch her back from school. After 2 months of crying, she finally settled down and enjoy going to school alot.

The school updates the parents regularly thr’ newsletters and her teachers are very approachable and friendly. They have meet the parents session end of each semester which the teachers will tell you more about your child’s progress and give you a checklist to indicate your child’s proficiency level in some of the tasks done.

The school environment is generally clean and neat and has its own playground and music room. Overall, I would say its considered quite good for a kindergarten. Maybe the only drawback is the curriculum not "chim" enough (eg no spelling and 听写).
