It is advantageous for parents as the principal’s office is just across the vehicular pickup point.
Whilst waiting for DC, managed to have some informal chats with the principals when I saw him/her using the pedestrian crossing to go to the main building.

RE: NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)
Dr Hang steered NUS High for almost 10 years as principal.
Together with the teachers, he had laid very strong foundation at all levels.
We are seeing the fruits of the tremendous effort and hard work put in by all of them. Thank you! -

The teachers in Computing are very capable and conscientious. They have been there before the tenure of the current principal.
My child has a CO from both RI and NUS High. He has a keen interest in Computing other than Math and Science. He wants to go to NUS high. We were ok with his choice, as ultimately he is the one going through the rigours of the curriculum. With news now out that there is going to be a new principal, I want to know, if this changes anything - in terms of how the school will be led in future.
There has been no changes except that it became a compulsory subject instead of an elective.
Students taking part in Computing Olympiads go to NUS School of Computing for training. NUS SOC also offers undergrad modules for NUS High students. It is just a couple of bus stops away. -

So far I have not come across any student who has accelerated in CS but quite a few students from Year 5 onwards are attending NUS modules every year.
Curious, may I know if there is acceleration for computing studies? Ty
The CS teachers are very proactive and CS is one subject where seniors are actively helping out in NOI and IOI trainings.
I will ask DC about the acceleration tonight. -

Selected NUSH students start taking some NUS modules with NUS undergrads from Year 5 onwards.
By the time they enter the relevant NUS course, they have sufficient credit exemption and free time to pursue double degrees. -

My opinion is ...
I don't think it's a matter of which school is better.dagong99\" post_id=\"1925896\" time=\"1564718679\" user_id=\"48163:
This is something else i wanted to ask from all the experienced people here... Have heard many people who get selected in NUS, leave it for Raffles? Do u think Raffles is better than NUS? In what sense ?
Rather, it's a matter of which school suits the child more and whether the child will thrive in that school.
In any case, both schools are great schools.
If your child is fighting for government scholarships or US universities ... RI is likely going to be better
If your child is good in everything including CCA/leadership ... RI is likely going to be better
If your child is lob-sided to Maths and Science ... NUSH is likely going to be better
For the other, I think more of what your child inspire to be
RI mission is Nurturing thinkers, leaders and pioneers of character who serve by leading and lead in serving.
... I interpret as Harvard, scholar, Minister, and etc
NUSH mission is Inspire and shape the future of education in mathematics and science. Future-ready Pioneers, Humanitarians and Innovators for the world ... I interpret as A*STAR, MIT, NASA, Steve Job, Einstein
Very apt description of NUS High!!!
My DC is having a wonderful journey in NUSH and been inspired to expand the horizons in the maths and sciences. 😄
NUSH is doing a great job nurturing these young minds. Never in our wildest dreams did we expect DC to represent Singapore in 2 Olympiad subjects.
DC and fellow schoolmates were the top team and second team in SPSO and NMOS for their year. The other schoolmates, were slightly more talented than DC, had gone to an elite school after PSLE but since then, had never come across them in the Olympaids. Perhaps they are leading and serving in other fields! -

Please let your DS take part in the selection trials without any form of external coaching to game the selection process. If he is selected, he will surely be able to cope!

Hi abhcbl
Once successful in the DSA selection, your child should have a fruitful time in NUS High.
The small cohort/class size, in comparison to other schools, enables the student to have more opportunities in events, activities, overseas trips etc
There is a lot more personal attention and interaction from teachers.
The feedback that I get is that usually students have a wonderful time in NUS High.
There is also the Year 5 boarding programme where the students learn to become more independent and responsible. -
