I remember that HCI didn't do too well for their PW for this batch, compared to other JCs.

Setting goal of near 250s and above are excellent T score.

Not most kids can achieve this range. Does not mean 250s can guarantee into big local uni years down the road - Upper sec syllabus is also totally different, investing $ & time in more & more tuition to maintain or let the child learn to tackle own road blocks ...
If the child feel stressed abt hitting this number, as parents, we should take a step back n reflect - they are mini teens (11/12yo) at such young age, getting afraid by a taboo number ... can they handle bigger exams stress in future - O & A level is so much higher level , local uni exams are not easy n even more stressful - Why must a child feel so stress at such tender age now , more to come in their late teens /20s?

Whatever is outcome, parent/s go to sch with your dc later, let them feel your tender love ,support and be pillar for them , wait for them patiently & lovingly

We have gone thru 2 rounds of PSLE. My first kid did average, scoring 230+, and he went to a neighbourhood school. But, this did not stop him from doing very well in his GCE O Levels and is now in JC.

My second kid did better than expected, scoring 250+, and is now in Sec 2.

We all go thru an emotional coaster ride and anxiety. We will feel disappointed when our kid don't do to our expectations, and this is natural.

Whatever the outcome, just be there to support your kids.

Firstly, they will be put in groups of 4 or 5. There will be a group project where some materials are give. They are required to use those materials to come out with a solution for the given problem. A teacher will be assigned to each group.

It is important that your child participate and not be a bystander. The outcome of the project is not so important, but how the group works together and how your child actively involves in the project is more important. I remember that my child told me there was a boy who is very passive and the teacher needed to prompt him to take part. This is not a good sign as SST has a lot of hands on learning.

After the project, each child will be interviewed individually by the teacher. Just advise your child to be himself/herself and enjoy the camp.

WonderWoman - your ds/dd shortlisted for the camp?

Make sure you check the correct email when you first registered. I almost missed it for my child as it was not sent to my email. Check the email that you have registered your DC with SST.

Also, check your spam folder just in case.

My friend's dh is on contract in a statutory board. Contract for many years liao.

His contract might or might not get renewed. So there's no job security even in government sector.
According to another friend who is working in another statutory board, after his batch, all new hires are on contract basis.

Are fresh grads on contract too?

15-20 years ago when I did my final year project with DSTA, those friends I made there told me they were on contract, renewable yearly.
So contract staff is not really something new.

DH's niece graduating this year with First Class Hons. Before graduating, she already secured a job with the Big Four accounting firms. Guess one needs good Hons and an impressive résumé nowadays to stand out from the rest.

Not new of course, BUT getting more prevalent nowadays.

According to the MOE FAQ each student is allowed a deduction of 4 points from their L1R5
1. Two for a grade A1/A2 at CCA,
2. Two for passing (A1-C6) English and HMT
3. Two for passing MSP/CSP
4. Two for coming from a feeder school.

If my DS does not take HMT, the only way to get more than two points is to take MSP/CSP or apply from a \"feeder\" school.

Have I got this correct?

If so, with a mother tongue exemption can my DS apply to attend a CSP?

And will it apply as a \"third\" language as intended for bonus points?

I think they have one of the best, if not the best normal stream results.

And the Bonus (+1/2/3) Points doesn't apply to all. You may be graded Distinction / Merit / Pass on your cert, but only Pupils in the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take HCL will be awarded Bonus Points.


To take HCL at secondary school:
•\tTop 10% of PSLE cohort
•\tTop 11% - 30% of PSLE cohort with A* in CL or minimally Merit in HCL

The bonus points apply to all who take HMT. But, the bonus points are only applicable if students choose to go SAP schools.
