    • RE: How much $$ do you spend on kid’s tuition per month?

Finally tahan till my DD1 finished her Grade 8 Piano last week. Savings of $280 will now go to DS2 and DD3 higher piano fees as they move to next grade level.

DD1,DS2 and DD3 tuition are at home, paid abit more for 1-1 and also to save on travelling time. Tuition fees including piano more than $4k per month.

$4k per month is for 1 kid or 3 kids?

      $4k for 3 kids. Not 1 😓

If they can practise by themselves, don’t think I need tutors already. They asked for help as they have been failing and struggling. I don’t get tutors to improve their grades if they are already doing ok. Too much stress and financially draining.

    • RE: HDB and Condo

I was told if want SCV, must have Lan point. I have 1 Lan point in the master bedroom and also Access Point (yes, wifi very important). I have now decided to place my TV on 1 side of the wall (no Lan point) and now relying on AP to surf, doing just fine. If I decide later to have SCV, will move the TV to the other side of the wall. Yes, option is important, took all these into consideration before hacking commenced. I have also thought through all wifi AP points location, CCTV location, check through existing aircon trunking to see if any leakage, and do these wiring/trunking upfront. Main bulk of the renovation time was spent on deciding on wiring (basically trying to avoid telling myself later on "I should have done this and that" etc). I re-did my flooring, take this opportunity to do termite prevention too.

If you look for auspicious date to move, try to book mover early, as others are also likely looking at these same dates.

I moved twice last year, wanted to use the same mover but their schedule fully booked on that day.

Totally agree with doing the infrastructure upfront. Had this exactly in mind when doing house renovation. I allocated most of my budget to do hacking and rewiring (very important), save the trouble of messy hacking or unsightly exposed trucking later. I also did more Power point / Lan point (rather than less) as adding is difficult. Soft furnishings can always add it later when budget less tight.

I am planning a family trip to Oakland, does anyone know and kind to advise what is the best way to reach Oakland. SQ does not have direct flight San Franciso, only LA. Called SQ hotline, they can't advise also and asked me to contact travel agent. They only mention can stopover at certain (can say which) countries then connect flight to Oakland. Can also advise the most ease of travel and transit as will be travelling in a group of 9-12 (from 20 mths to 70 yrs) . Thanks. Never been to USA and is clueless how to move about.

Fly into San Francisco. Public transport in the US is not very convenient and most people will rent cars and self-drive. With your young and old members, trains and buses are probably not the best way to travel. Are you going to stay in Oakland, or are you planning to move around? If you are going to just 1 place and staying there, you can book transport from the airport to wherever you are going (limo, minibus etc).

If you are intending to tour, unless you have someone who can drive a minibus (not sure how big these are and whether there are restrictions) or 2 people who can drive MPVs or 3 people who can drive regular cars, you may want to arrange a tour instead. For a customised tour, you can approach a travel agency to arrange for you, or book onto one of their standard tours. Why are you going in such a big group if there isn't a more experienced person to make the arrangements?

Thanks for reply. We are accompanying grandma to USA to visit aged relatives. Thought of doing some background check and work here before troubling them to arrange. Yes, will ask them best way to get around, at the same time, I will also approach travel agency to see if they provide certain service at a reasonable price.
