Is 2b necessary since the popular schools are turning away parent volunteers? Parents should continue to volunteer even when the child has secured a place in the school though there are parents still volunteer their service even after their kids gain admission in schools

Transfer of school
Hi,
Does anyone has experience in transferring your child at end of Sec 2? My child’s school is a notorious school. He befriended this group of students from upper secondary who are ‘famous’ smoking and fighting. Though he knows he is not supposed to do such things with them, somehow, its just diffucult to make him to break off with them totally. They even invite him to join their gang. Though the school is aware of these students, they are not doing much to them. In fact, I find the school is too lenient to these students.
As his results is just average, its unlikely for him to be transferred to a better school. Is it common that most neighbourhood schools do have such students? My concern is what if the school he is transferred to has worse students than his present school. To be frank, one thing good about his school is his teachers are very understanding and caring and this is something which I like about the school.
So I have to decide after the year end exam as it will be too late to transfer him next year. -
RE: Club 1998 Kid (Sec 2 2012)
From what I understand students who scored A2 and above can take triple science. But A2 is only 70+ marks, will the child able to cope with 3 science subjects? I was told if a child can do double math, they will benefit if they go to JC or Poly on those courses which need to study math. Any advice?

RE: Smart Science Lab - Discussion
My son attended science buddies classes when he was in P6. Found that the programme focus more on experiments and not much written assessments which I think is more suitable for younger kids. Smart Science lab is more expensive but I think the course is more suitable for P6 students.

Hi Edureach,leesf:
We are a first-timer want to invest in a condo. A 3 bedroom unit costs about $1.1m and will only be completed 4 years later. We still have about $80k HDB loan. Any advice is this a worth buy. What are the factors that need to be considered?
Most important factor is never follow the crowd. Next is the question of your outstanding loan of 80k. Following next, do you need to take up a loan with duration of 25 yrs or even 30 yrs? If answer is yes, then your dream condo is out of your reach. Lastly, are you confident of selling it at more than 2.5 million after 30 yrs?
Thanks for your reply. We don't intend to stay in the condo but thought of renting out after completion and the rental will be used to pay off the loan. Hopefully, if the property goes up in 5 years time, then we sell it off. Of course the condo has to be worth at least $1m then its worthwhile to sell. What's your thoughts? -

RE: Travel: Thailand - Bangkok
Huahin is a very relaxed place. I had been there twice and think it is much better than Phuket which is too commercialised with all the angmohs. You have to take into account the journey from bkk to huahin which is at least 3 hrs (with no stop). There is a shopping mall and 2 nite markets if I’m not wrong, a beach near the Sofitel hotel where you can ride the ponies. There are lots of shops offering massages mani & pedicures. Plenty of nice seafood and pizzas & spaghatti. You go there just to relax and do nothing else.

RE: Geylang Methodist Secondary School
My son is in sec 1 too. Did you join the Parents Support Group? If you participate in their activities you get to meet the volunteer parents and they will share experience with you.
