- Acute respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache
- Muscle ache or tiredness

- SpO2 (at rest) stays in the range of 93% to 94%
Contact your designated healthcare provider under the Home Recovery Programme (HRP).


(2) If you experience worsening of one or more of these symptoms:
- Shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing
- Chest pains or pressure on your chest
-Palpitations (fast beating or pounding of your heart)
If your SpO2 (at rest) records at 92% or less
Call 995 immediately!
Inform paramedics that you are infected with COVID-19 and on home recovery.

Hello KSP Mentors and Masters!
Congrats to all who receive CO and WL! :rahrah: My DD received CO for NYGH which was a surprise to us really. Yes ! yes! we are definitely ecstatically happy about the offer but on the other hand we are worried about how academically challenging NYGH is. You see, DD is not great in her MT and barely surviving HMT (fail/pass type). Can anyone shed light on how NYGH MT program is like? Would they dedicate time and effort to those poorer in the language or would they zoom away as most kids there I assume are all very good in their MT. Has any parent's DD gone to NYGH with poor MT but manage to survive and even thrive in the language? We have heard that NYGH is a caring school with caring teachers and won't leave students behind but then again we are worried and don't want to put her in an environment that is so challenging and set her up for failure. DD is conscientious, hardworking and independent but just not good at MT and somehow not interested in it. Thanks everyone and good luck for the upcoming PSLE! Only 2 weeks away!

Congrats!! My 3 girls went to NYGH as well and they were not great in HCL (although I must admit they had A* in CL and distinction in HCL in PSLE) but generally their standard of chinese is worse than mine. It was really very meh and they don't speak the language at all even at school. Somehow without tuition, they manage to survive HCL. And I heard there is great support for girls who need help in the subject so you do not need to worry. If HCL is really challenging, the sch will identify these girls and prep them for O level CL instead (ie these girls will take CL instead of HCL) from sec 3 onwards (note they are still in the IP stream). So I don't think HCL should be a great concern.

Sorry to interrupt, my understanding of the O level Chinese thingy is a little different…
I think IP students who aren’t doing well in HCL in sec 2 in NYGH may be required to sit for O level CL exam in sec 3 but it is just sitting an additional exam and not switched to taking O level CL entirely.
They then proceed to take HCL O level exam in sec 4.
I think this policy was spelt out in the student handbook previously.
(I paid special attention to it as Dd was weak in Chinese…)
From what was said at the NYGH’s virtual open house conducted this year, it seems that the policy is still the same.
The principal mentioned weaker students may need to take an additional O level CL exam and the HOD of Chinese says all IP students take HCL.
I remember that the rationale for sitting an additional ‘O’ level CL exam in sec 3 for these weaker students was explained in the handbook.
Basically, it is just laying a safety net erm…out of abundance of caution.
There is a mother tongue requirement to meet for admission to JCs in Singapore and it can be met by obtaining a certain grade in MT. (Can be B syllabus, CL or HCL)

If u do not meet the requirement, u can still be conditionally admitted to JC1 but have to meet certain criteria subsequently to remain in JC.
The school is just trying to preempt that for the students who are weaker in HCL.
It is not required for all the girls as most girls do well in the HCL O level exam actually. (School’s HCL distinction rate was consistently around 72-74% in the 4 years when dd was there.)

My dd from a non-SAP was one of the weaker students in Chinese, she had an A in Chinese for PSLE.
She told me she guessed her way through the comprehension passages when she first started school in NYGH as she had very limited vocab since she hardly reads in Chinese.
Anyway, like what lmp75 says, there’s support for these weaker students.
Mine was picked up for HCL remedials and she attended it for 2 years.
I believe as long as the students are willing to work with the teachers, they should be able to cope fine with the school’s help.
That said, I told dd they are teachers , not magicians, so she has to do her part and pay attention in class, complete the assignments dutifully.
And dont compare grades with her peers while she is at it , lol.
Just make sure she is better than what she was as she progresses and she will most likely do fine at the national examinations at the end of her 4 years in NYGH.
I personally do not advocate spending too much time on one subject myself , so basically dd just do whatever HCL work that was assigned to her by the school and slowly improve over time.
We didn’t sign her up for HCL tuition outside of school too.
I believe the remedials, resources and MT program by school is good enough as she managed a distinction in HCL O level exam eventually.
So, don’t worry too much about the HCL.
As long as your child doesn’t detest Chinese and is willing to put in reasonable effort, she should do fine at the end of the day.

Can I presume that this 1 new infection was a child? Or was it a family member of an older existing case? Where to find this info? At least the age range of this new case?

What parents would like to know is, was there school-based transmission or not??

I think the school did say they have spare sets in case the students need it during the national examination. DD’s senior borrowed her GC as a spare set during the A levels.

Not sure about now but In dd’s time, they sit for separate advanced science papers for the sec 3 and that will be calculated into the MSG grade as it is the only paper they sit for that science subject.

For the critical year in sec 4, however it is different.
The student will sit for both the advanced science and standard science papers.
Only the standard science paper will be included in the MSG computation for sec 4.
The minimum requirement to take the science subject in JC (eg B3 for chemistry) will also be based on the overall grade for the standard science subject.
The advanced science paper will include some A level topics being brought down and the grade will be shown as pass/merit/distinction instead.

Dd took triple science with advanced science and IH as the only humanity subject back then. (Think there was additional lesson time every fortnight for the advanced science that she took to cover some academic/project work and learning journeys something like that.)
It’s her final choice after deliberating on it as she isn’t keen taking another humanity subject too.
I think it served her well.

Regarding IH, I guess u may have been a bit concerned as as it’s a new subject for the girls.
I do remember reading somewhere in this thread that the cohort average for Sec 4 IH was actually A1 last year.
It is also what dd got in Sec 4 although she wasn’t doing that well in IH back in sec 3.
I guess some just need a little more time to get better at it but they will improve with some guidance and practice.
So don’t worry too much…personally I would let my child find out more about it from her current seniors and teachers like what Swc suggested and if she is decided after considering her own interests and strength, I would just give her my support.

Agree that schools are quite strict with safe management measures and risk of transmission is low since the student was well when last in school.

(Some mask off activities like music and drama, PE and intermingling of students during CCA etc. will be suspended/restricted again with the new changes starting tomorrow)
Just remind our children to change their masks if it gets wet and continue to practise good hand hygiene as well.
