      Hi Dino_Mummy

I just send my P2 boy for the 15min test last weekend. I am actually impress through the 3 areas of assessment, they are able to analyse the general situation of my boy in class. I have booked a time slot for other 8 areas.
Please share with me your boy's performance after with the centre for 2months.

      Thanks
      Leo

      Dino_Mummy:
Brought my son over the weekend for an analysis.

Did not highlight to them at all about my DS's strength and weakness prior.
Upon arrival, they did a 15-min 'test' to gauge his level of \"Visual memory\", \"Auditory Attention\" and one other test.

Thereafter, another teacher will sit through and explain to us the results while the same teacher who did the test on my DS carried on to 'play' blocks with him. When you confirm signing up, Thinkersbox will do an \"indepth test\" (about 60-75mins) for your kids.

The teacher will go through this result of the \"Indepth test\" during the first day of his lesson. All activities conducted here are based on the results. E.g. my son is weak in \"Auditory Attention\" - they will have materials / activities to help him in this area (from a video they showed me).

Hopefully, he will improve after the 10-months course.
Will post here to update all again after few months down the road.

    • RE: Lazy & Low Attention Span Kid

      Hi Dino_Mummy

I went to the polyclinic and get a referral letter to see a specialist.
As my boy was 7 yrs old at the point of time, I was referred to NUH @ BoonLay to see the doctor as they handle children from 7yrs on onward. For your case they will referred to either to NUH along Clementi or KK.
The doctor will do a few diagnostic tests and monitor for a period of time. They won’t put the child on mediciation unless they are sure that the child needs one. For my boy, he isn’t on mediciation at all. On our first visit, the doctor will test his learning capabilities and to test if he is learning well at his age. The doctor says he scored above average and his learning capabilities is fine. His problem is attention span. Then she will provide diagnostic forms for the teachers to filled in 2-3 months time and she will monitor his behaviour from there. I went to see her quarterly for 2-3 times. Beginning of this year, his interest level is high and his behavior changes in school, diagnostic form teacher is good so we are seeing her only in Oct 12.
      Hope it help.

    • RE: Lazy & Low Attention Span Kid

      Hi

I am facing the same problems as you. My 8 years old boy is also like this and I did send him for ADD test. Yes indeed his attention span on school work / home work is very short, even the school teachers / tutors complain but comes to play, his attention span is 100%.
His problem may comes from too much TV and computer games which I agreed. From young, he is allowed to watch & play as much as he wants. Thus he is not interested in school work as he will find it boring compared to interactive games & TV. This is also what the doctor says. So we stopped him from TV and games, limit to no more than 30mins per day. It does help slightly. Now we are trying hard to get his interest in school work in order to increase his focus on school work. We realised if he is interested, his attention span will increase even his behavior during lessons will be better.
He is not the kinda who is Afraid of Teachers... if he is not interested or convince, he don't really bothers about the teachers. <This is a real headache for the teachers to control him or get him to co-operate.>
So maybe you can try to figure out if your child is getting too much TV/Computer games time......
One thing for sure, motivation strategy does proves to be a long time solutions than scolding.
I had lose my temper and scolded him like a Mad Woman :stompfeet: . It's only able to control him for a couple of days, after that he is back to 'Square One....... U know what I mean.
I ,myself is also trying to figure out how to manage him and get his result to be consistent. He can failed his school spelling / test if he had no interest / not motivated in studies...... Sad to say our education system really SUCKS.... difficult to create interest.........

    • RE: How to Teach your kid to focus in class?

      Hi

My boy who is P1 this year , also have the same problem.
During the mid year parent meeting session, the form teacher told me that my boy had short attention span (which i agreed as this is not the first feedback). The teacher said that he cant stop talking in class which caused disturbance to the class and progress in the lessons. I also realised that while doing his work, he will take his own time. I have sent him to many difference kind of enrichment / tution classes, feedback from the teacher is his attention span and he refuse to do his work in the class. He can stare at the book but no work done.
I'm not sure how can I get him to focus. I believe he is doesnt belong to hyper-active group as he can FOCUS very well when he is watching TV or playing games. He can sit there for an hour or two.
Any parents can help me! Greatly appreciate any tips on how to handle my boy.
      Thanks :?:

    • RE: All About Full-Time Maids

      Hi hi

I am having a Mynmar maid, she is 23years old, is a transfer maid. Initially when she arrived, we thought that she was good and really come here to work.
Till there is one time I suspect her going out in the morning without our permission. As both my hb and myself are working, there is no one to look over her and my boy is in P1 morning session. So she had all the morning to herself. After that I install Camera at home and to my surprise, the whole morning from 7 am to 1.30pm (my boy reached home at about 1.45pm) she was on the phone for 1-2 hrs and we also knew she has a boyfriend. As she loves to make phone call in my study room and not realising even though she hid one corner, her conversation is recorded. And the way she does the housework is just touch and go, not clean. But when we are at home, her attitude changed. So such a maid cannot be kept as you won’'t know what she is capable of doing when she stays on longer.
So I went to see another agent, who had indonesian maids (transfer) on hand, they are all of the same kind. They work for the $$ for themselves not for families. There are of no difference to those PHP. Sorry I really blacklist PHP as few experience with them, all the same mindset, here to enjoy life and not working.
Our conclusion is to send the maid back and no more maid for us. Now I am looking at the student care to place my child.

    • RE: Criteria for a Good Student Care Service (BASC)

      Hi

I am seeking for a student care to, so far I seen some student care but don’t like the enviroment.
Previously my boy was in child care centre during his preschool year, if you compared a child care centre to a student care, child care centre are much better in term of enviroment and hygience.

As what Fuzz had mentioned, they are not under MCYS, so their standards are really in question. Even though some of the centres provide assessment materials, I doubt if they are of any good.

Now I am looking at those child care centres that provide After school care.
