Back to the main topic…DSA 2014.
The arguments about fairness or unfairness should be disscussed in deep nights.
This year, the DSA results appear earlier than last year.

I , possibly many others, wonder what the record wrote?
For the record, RI does take in mainstream students under Math DSA. However, they are few and far between. Some years, less than 4, some years, 1 or even none. -

MOE will not care about it: Every school is a good one!Seriously, if a school does not offer DSA to you, there are 2 ways to move on. 1) Take it that this school does not value you, why continue pursuing a school that does not want you. Go to a school that values you, it may develop you better since you are deemed an asset, big fish in small pond effect. Better still, since you are such a great Math whiz, way better than the 2nd rate GEPpers RI allegedly offers DSA to, go on to beat all the RI kids in future Olympiads. Show RI who's BOSS.
Or 2) Understand that DSA is merely one way of entering a school and understand that RI has limitations, ie demand far outstripping supply and you just didnt make the cut. Work hard and gain admission via PSLE.
Crying mother father over alleged, unproved unfairness on the part of RI is totally unproductive. If you have strong convictions and evidence that RI's selection process is Kelong or corrupt, bring this up to MOE.
The first way is an image of kid's. Let's see this year's results for the maths MSers wishing enter RI via DSA. -

It's right. However, RI used very different criteria for GEPpers and Non-GEPpers during its DSA. This is the main problem.
Perhaps you need to understand the concept of demand and supply. HCI is not the top choice for most GEPpers so it can safely offer more COs to both GEPpers and MSers as many GEPpers who are offered both RI and HCI would take up RI's offer (I said many, not all, don't shoot me). This is the reality.
RI has more demand than supply, who it chooses to offer these scarce places to is entirely its prerogative. Those who are not happy with these market forces may opt to stay out of this market and move to one that has lower demand and greater supply of DSA places.
IF RI hope to DSA top students in maths, it should choose the similiar standards, such as platnium in SMOPS or other contests.
RI may select some GEPpers take part in its selected quiz, and find how much its GEP COs have. -

RI has 6 GEP classes, and 30 kids/class. Last year, there are ~350 male GEPpers entered middle schools.
Very easy to score 85? :yikes: U know of the secret formula to achieve this ? hmmm , future GEPPERS can perhaps approach u .leooel:
, it is very easy to achieve ave score of 85, I think. Last year, RI received ~180 GEPpers. How many COs did it sent via DSA? 200 COs (including arts, sports, maths, etc)? Therefore, anyone can estimate the chance for MSers by maths.
180 COs to Geppers ? All via DSA ? May I know how do u get this number ? U must be very well informed to have this data. Pls share ? thanks.
I do not say 180 COs to GEPpers via DSA. There must be some GEPpers entered RI by PSLE, but also some GEPpers receiving COs of RI finally went to NUSH, HCI, or ACSI. -

Anyway, Nanhua and TaoNan also are GEP schools, and Nanhua said the trainning menbers were selected by SMOPS. This made my misunderstand.
Now that this is out in the open, I am just wondering why leooel is not saying HCI is unfair or nonTaoNan and nonNanhua kids are treated unfairly.
Instead, keep harping on RI selection process and on GEPpers. And now he/she says above 85 is very easy to get. In the first place, Layperson says the GEPpers she/he knows of, I am sure this doesnt cover ALL GEPpers. Only RI admissions knows if this is indeed the criteria (which means none of the GEPpers who went for GAT would have gotten a CO), so we should not take this as the real truth and build arguments and allegations around it. I highly doubt RI bothers to conduct interviews only to have a blanket cutoff based on exam marks.
I think HCI are fair to GEPpers and MSers, because it also sent many COs to MSers in DSA. IF RI had given COs ahead to the excellent MSers in RIPWC, like Lim Jeck, still it has any CO to other MSers?
By the way, >30 (in 53) platinums of SMOPS last year entered RI, HCI, NUSH, RSG, and entered the 2nd Round of SMO junior. It proves the importance of SMOPS. -

layperson:
RI selects ave score of 85 and above for GEP. Everyone GEPPER, even those with no CCA or ACADEMIC awards, achievement, I knew with more than 85 gets CO. 83, 84 may land a waiting list. The rest are rejected.
MS via CCA need to be the top in tennis, etc. Be prepare once admitted, RI will put the student through vigorous frequent training say 3x a week. Winning top medals is important. If your child had change of interest. ..

You superkiasuparents did not sleep?ss501:
There is no Maths Olympiad training even if you are one of the top 20 SMOPS winners or one of the ASMOPS winners.
The selection for HONG KONG PLK is merely based on the HCI Maths camp, and it has absolutely nothing to do with SMOPS or APMOPS. Some schools do get invited for HCI Maths camp but NOT ALL GEP schools are invited.
FYI, nanyang primary was not invited.
Mystery finally solved.
According to my analysis based the SMO results this year or other messages, last year RI
probably gave no or possibly 1~2 COs to MSers via Maths. Last year there are ~60 MSers enter the 2nd Round by maths. THis is fair for those MSers? -
RE: DSA 2014
Misty Rain:
Indeed there was a Math training camp held by HCI last year.
I said what happened last year, but yours is this year. Maybe they did not send a primary team this year, so there is not a training.leooel:

Verifying that Platinum awardee, Top 20 SMOPS and Top 30 APMOPS not aware of such training. GEPper, not MSer. Anything else to cover?
:stupid:
From the website of NHPS,
The following students of Nan Hua Primary School were identified from their sterling performance at SMOPS and were invited to participate in the HCI Math Training Camp held from 5 to 7 June 2013:
[/quote]Indeed, last year HCI had sent a primary team to the contest held in Hong Kong. But there is not such message this year. -
