Does anyone know why winning competitions may not help in getting through DSA to RI? Eg, some GEP students do not win gold for NMOS but some MS students do. Still these wins do not help the MS students? What should a MS student achieve? Would any parents whose DC got DSA (MS academic) into RI kindly share? Especially of Math successful case. Thanks!

It is a tradition of RI. Some MSers even being ~TOP 10 of SMOPS cannot get the COs or WLs from RI via DSA. Maybe TOP 3 is a help? But you know it almost is impossible because MSers often have not so many MO trainings as the GEPPers.

Just curious, do you know which school provides special MO training for geppers? From those I know, the only MO training geppers received are those conducted by external vendors, which are available to selected MS in their respective schools. A number attended external MO classes like Maths Hub etc or have trainers to prepare them for NMOS and SMOPS.
Such imbalance or unfair always exists. I know some GEP primarys, such as Nanhua has such MO training from Pri.3 or 2(?). I know a MSer is in TOP 20 in the last years' SMOPS. But he knew his place one month after the ceremony, and lost the chance to be MO training after the ceremony.
Please dun just post hear say thing in public forum... It's like scaring ppl off and creating bad image of the sch. Just to share that some kids got in top schools, but their parents maybe not so Hao Lian to want to announce to the whole wide world via this type of platform and chose to share with their close friends and family only. Hence, therefore resulted on less ppl can 'hear say' MS kids got in top sch.

My nephew by the way got into RI via DSA last year. He is not a gepper for your info and my cousin cannot even bother to visit this site to announce their joy.

      :goodpost:
šŸ˜‚ , this is the first time I hear saying such an excellent boy. Could you only tell me his surname? Thanks.
Some parents are strong curious and hope to know his surname.

I think many mainstream students do get into RI DSA via sports, cca. Not that unusual. It is via academic route that is hard. The poster did not mention how the nephew got into RI.
She said he DSA RI via academic route. By analyzing the results of SMO, I think maybe only one boy had such strength.

I am glad that RI has GEP classes and non-GEP classes. As somebody from mainstream, my son only did very few projects in primary school (maybe 2 projects only). I understand from this forum that GEPpers did a lot of project works in primary school. RI has a lot of project works. At any point in time, there are multiple projects going on.

Can you imagine if GEPpers and non-GEPpers are put in the same class? GEPpers are very experienced in project works while non GEPpers have very little experience. If they are mixed, most likely the GEPpers will dominate the discussion. Do you think it will be good for non-GEPpers?

RI is giving non-GEPpers time to grow. I appreciate that.

But in other words, the Non-GEPpers always are unexperienced comparing with the GEPpers? šŸ˜‚

How many kids in a class? How many GEP classes?

When they first enter RI, I believe non-GEPpers are inexperienced in project works compared to GEPpers. Your words of \"always are unexperienced\" is inaccurate because the non-GEPpers will catch up. In Year 3, they will be mixed.

There are about 29 students per class. 8 mainstream classes and 6 GEP classes in Year 1 this year.
šŸ˜‚  , sometimes the words need not too accurate, and my English is very poor.

It is glad to know your kid entering his dream school. My DS also realized his best dream.
