      lulu2014:

      for every question jane answered correctly in a.quiz, she scored 8 points. 3 points were deducted for each incorrect answer. for every 10 questions jane answered, 2 were incorrect. she scored a total of 290points in a quiz. a)how many questions did jane answer altogether? b) how many points less did jane score because of the incorrect answers?

      For 1 set of 10 questions, she would scored =8X8 - 2X3 =58 points.

      Therefore there are 290/58 = 5 sets of 10 questions.

      a)Total questions answered is 5 X10= 50 questions.

      b) From 2 incorrect questions, 6 points were deducted per set of 10 questions.
      Therefore for 5 sets, the total points deducted = 6 X 5 = 30 points.

      that's simple and clear! nice!

      Hi,

      Can someone please help with the following question urgently :-

      Q : If a bicycle shop owner offers a discount of 5% off a bicycle's usual selling price, he will earn $85. If a shop owner offers a discount of 20% off its usual selling price, he will lose $20. Find the usual selling price and cost price of the bicycle.

      Thank you in advance for your help !
      Hi, may it helps you.

      change in percentage = 95 - 80 = 15 %
      change in profit = 85 + 20 = 105
      selling price = 105 / 15% = 700
      cost price = 700 * 95% - 85 = 580

      you can see the model http://www.tutorconnekt.com/questions/question/q-if-a-bicycle-shop-owner-offers-a-discount-of-5-off-a-bicycles-usual-selling-price-he-will-earn-85-if-a-shop-owner-offers-a-discount-of-20-off-its-usual-selling-price-he-will-lose-20-find-th.

      Initial M:W => 4 : 6
      Final M:W => 4 : 7

      We are given that the change in W is twice of M. Convert either the initial ratio or final ratio such that it meets this criteria, then both the initial and final ratio share the same units.

      Initial divide by 2, -> M:W -> 2u:3u
      Final remains at M:W - >4u : 7u ....... difference is M=2 while W=4, condition met, i.e change in W is twice change in M.

      Initial M:W-> 2u:3u
      total =5u= 1250
      u = 250

      a) Number of women boarded the train is 4u = 4(250)=1000

      b) Final ratio M:W -> 4u:7u
      Total = 11u
      Total adults in the end is = 11 (250)= 2750

      nice!

      Episode brief: Many often say graduation equates to unemployment. Graduates will face more problems and obstacles coming out of school as they start to fend for themselves. Are they prepared to face these challenges? Is it a common trend amongst teenagers to have no dreams and goals?

      I find this episode very interesting & wld like to share it here.
      these graduates do have dreams, but it's about how many actually follow their dreams or take actions to realise their dreams.

      how many have listened to Steve Jobs' Stanford speech before? but how many have followed his suggestion of \"don't settle\"?

      I think 伟雄 (Anders Tan) in the show is a good example. he started a social enterprise. i happened to be his classmate in SMU and I think that's commendable. if you don't take action, dreams can only remain as dreams.

      so i tried to call up another agency i found online... but the coordinator was scary.. after getting my address asked me to pay commission first... when i reply i tout the norm was to collect after 2nd lesson... he turned nasty and used endless vulgarities on me.... he called back with another number and cont his swearing... screaming vulgarities... and made countless attempts to keep calling me.... in the end i had to make a police report.

      so right now... i also dunnoe how to go about getting a tutor...
      will appreciate if any one and recommend decent tutors so that i dont have to encounter another \"crazy\" coordinator.....
      that's scary! next time, why not check out this tutor directory (http://www.tutorconnekt.com/tutor-directory/). you can contact tutors directly because their phone numbers are available. then you can select and evaluate tutors yourself.

      This is bad...a couple of my friends sent their kids there and encountered the same issue. They had a hard time getting help for their kids at such short notice. Some of them joined the same centre as my kids now, the children feedback that the difference was so huge. They could understand what the current centre is teaching.

      This rotten case of such a bad teacher is really giving people headache. So parents, please pass the word to others.
      but to avoid cases like this, any tips on how to evaluate tutors before hiring?
