I was a bit down when it seemed that my child could be ADHD. His is my elder boy and i have no basis for comparison until i have my younger boy who is relatively more manageable and able to sit by himself and play quietly sometimes. At least there are peaks and dips, you know, unlike the elder boy who is like a spinning dynamo.


I am probably in denial as his teachers had been complaining alot. We switched school and same issues surfaced. I saw some of his classmates are equally cheeky and active and thought there is no problem here at all until the ‘wake-up’ call from school on his learning difficulties. Is it a standard practice for teachers to compliment the kids to be ‘clever, intelligent, learns very fast’ ? yet at my boy has learning disabilities. It just don’t add up…

My boy is 5 this year. Haven’t met w social worker yet but he has alot of challenges w writing.

Not sure if he has dysgraphia coz he writes with a lot of effort n v slowly.

My boy has been v active or can be hyper. Lacks focus n concentration. Interrupts conversation. Hates boring, repetitive tasks n cant sit quietly to do work or play by himself. V high maintenance.

I tried playing games to challenge him like who moves/talks first lose and he has never won. He can’t sit still or stop talking. If he’s quiet, either he has dozed off or having high fever. He can self entertain himself n talk to himself while his classmate are napping. He can focus if he’s building his Lego. Otherwise he can’t stop fidgeting.

I don’t know if that’s poor parenting by us. He tries to obey instructions but only for a while then reverts back to ‘misbehaving’. I used to brush it off until his GP recommended us to have him assessed coz he was still behaving in a hyper manner when unwell.

I read that if it doesnt impact a child’s learning then it’s not ADHD.

Mummies, how are ADHD diagnosed here?


My child has been referred to see a specialist but i was told early intervention helps in his learning. We were initially skeptical and reluctant to send him for review though he did display ADHD-like symptons but we thought its common for active kids to behave like that.

Recently, his kindy told us he has learning disabilities and has assigned a social worker to work with us. Arrgh…

How would early intervention help ?

Would that labelling of ADHD hurt more then help ?

I m bloody sick with high fever resting at home n she took adv to ‘attack’ me w all these requests! Grrr

Now my maid wants to stay til 1Jan 2013 to enjoy the new year! I felt quite pissed that she’s pushing it. At first she just request to go back n happy if I let go back attend the wedding but now tell me when n what. I felt give her an inch n

She wants an mile now. Kind of pissed.

Yes. I will let her take her home leave earlier. The air tic I told her i pay half first then when she returns then I reimburse the other half. Will tell her if she don’t wish to extend after contract ends in March 2013 then I will use her own pay to buy the return ticket. Maybe I should withhold her one month’s pay in case I bought insurance n extend WP spent like $300+ n then she change her mind about going home later.

She also opened a FDW account which needs min $500 to maintain. She said she won’t close it coz she wanted to renew w me but taking her home leave earlier only.

What will happen to the account if she don’t returns ?

Help! Now my maid claims she need to be back in Dec to attend a relative wedding!


What do I need to do to enable that ?

Do u need to go thru agency to do that if she has been with me for less than 2 years ?

Read somewhere where we are advised to let her go home then when she actually do return then buy Insurance, extend WP ?

If her contract is less than 2 years, can I let her go on home leave first like Dec 12 when I m clearing leave ? Or I must do through only through agent ?

My maid told me this morning she got the KTKLN card but expires Feb 2014. Does she need to renew her card (where, how) if her renewed contract is until 2015?

My Indo maid contract expires 6 March 2013. She has 15 days home leave in the contract. She does not has the KTKLN card. Her WP expires 6 March 2013 and her passport was renewed in 2012 already.

If we decide to renew her contract, what are the steps to take?

Should I plan her home leave period to be last 2 weeks of Feb? so that I got 2 weeks allowance to renew her WP after she returned Singapore?

She don’t have KTKLN card now – how to apply for her or she can only DIY herself at Indo airport? Hers is Surabaya.

When she returned, I need to purchase insurance ? Assuming I purchase from NTUC income, the cheapest I get is $194.74 right?
