laughingcat:Well said! :goodpost: Personally i think parents worried too much. Getting into school that are nearby to the child's home is more important. If the school starts at 7.30am and can you imagine a child waking up at 5.45am just to catch the school bus! This is all so ridiculous. A child needs more sleep and rest. Even an adult has difficulty waking up at this time, what's more it is worse for a child.
Both schools are within 15 min drive. And pei hwa starts in the afternoon 1230pm for p1 and p2. Even if it's further, 孟母三迁。As long as its better for them. Sometimes discussing and considering which school for our dearies to go to with other parents is an enjoyable process, it doesn't mean that we are worrying too much.Scary:
Do you know is peihwa affiliated to any secondary schools?
To us, affiliation is not important as we prefer DS to fight base on his own merit.

drickymummy:
Children are so \"mouldable\", the family is quite a background mix peihwa and acs cultures. It's equally blessed for either school we know, but how would you make a choice? What do you like most about peihwa?Littlekohs:
Need some advice... if you had a choice, regardless of distance, would you like to put your child in peihwa, acs junior, or acs primary?
If there's a choice, then u might want to consider the kind of sch culture u prefer n is suitable for the child... -

RE: 2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
phtthp:
Thanks phtthp!first, enrol you child into Pei Hwa, under phase 1 (sibling) - 'chope' & secure a seat first, have peace of mind.
on that day - monitor situation in both ACS.
if green light head nod confirmed by P1 Registration officer in charge that no need to ballot at all within 1 km in whichever particular ACS school, then de-register child from Pei Hwa first, and re-register child under respective ACS.
on that day, various possible scenario outcome, under phase 2B :-
==========================================================
example:
a) if ACS Junior < 1 km confirmed no balloting required whereas Barker need balloting - then choose Junior.
b) if ACS Barker < 1 km confirmed no balloting required whereas Junior need balloting - then choose Barker.
c) if both < 1 km require balloting, then stay put at Pei Hwa.
d) if both < 1 km confirmed no balloting required, choose whichever you deem more suitable for your son.
fyi - Barker is a GEP centre, not Junior. Later on in P3, if your son happen to be offered a GEP place, and if he is already in Barker, then there is no hassle of shifting around. But if he remains in mainstream, then doesn't matter. Both schools are just as fine.
one parent mentioned that from own home grown (p1-p3) boys, Junior had 17 boys offered GEP vs 13 boys from Barker:-
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=25946&start=1430
physical facilities wise - the school building in Junior are bigger, more modern.
but Barker is the one that has swimming pool, competition size.
So you are suggesting that you would choose ACS junior or ACS primary over Peihwa? Can I know why is it so? Peihwa is a sap school with 16 going into GEP this year, still without GEP they produced 2 top scorers in PSLE. Are you choosing for the cca? -
RE: Anglo-Chinese School (Junior)
Ds1 had guaranteed entry to Pei Hwa, and though we go to Methodist church, we didn’t apply for membership, so if we try acs then, we would only be in phase 2c 1km balloting.
I always like ACS. I was from ACJC I found the boys healthy and athletic, not as snobbish as what people say. Sometimes boys when they are too artistic, they might not be so positive and sunshine… I find sports are extremely important to boys. Where they learn sportsmanship, discipline, strategy, keep the energy going.
But some of my friends think I shouldnt. Because Pei Hwa is also a very good school.
What about between acs primary and acs junior? -
RE: Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
Dear all, need some advice… If you have a chance to choose Pei Hwa (because ds1 is there), ACS Junior and ACS Primary (2b within 1km). Which one would you choose?
We don’t mind the distance, or siblings not in the same school. I like ACS because of its focus in sports, affiliation to ACS secondary school, less academic driven than pei hwa. We like Pei Hwa because of it’s focus in chinese and the discipline. -
