2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take
-
first, enrol you child into Pei Hwa, under phase 1 (sibling) - 'chope' & secure a seat first, have peace of mind.
on that day - monitor situation in both ACS.
if green light head nod confirmed by P1 Registration officer in charge that no need to ballot at all within 1 km in whichever particular ACS school, then de-register child from Pei Hwa first, and re-register child under respective ACS.
on that day, a few possible scenario outcome, under phase 2B :-
==========================================================
example:
a) if ACS Junior < 1 km confirmed no balloting required whereas Barker need balloting - then choose Junior.
b) if ACS Barker < 1 km confirmed no balloting required whereas Junior need balloting - then choose Barker.
c) if both < 1 km require balloting, then stay put at Pei Hwa.
d) if both < 1 km confirmed no balloting required, choose whichever you deem more suitable for your son.
fyi - Barker is a GEP centre, not Junior. Later on in P3, if your son happen to be offered a GEP place, and if he is already in Barker, then there is no hassle of shifting around. If your son is in Junior, he'll be on wait list to transfer over to Barker GEP, if he's been offered. But if he remains in mainstream, then doesn't matter. Both schools are just as fine.
one parent mentioned that from own home grown (p1-p3) boys, Junior had 17 boys offered GEP vs 13 Barker boys:-

physical facilities wise - the school building in Junior are bigger, more modern.
but Barker is the one that has swimming pool, competition size. -
Which is better choice? Anderson Pri or Hougang Pri?

So you are suggesting that you would choose ACS junior or ACS primary over Peihwa? Can I know why is it so? Peihwa is a sap school with 16 going into GEP this year, still without GEP they produced 2 top scorers in PSLE. Are you choosing for the cca? -
all 3 are good schools - Pei Hwa, both ACS.

for Secondary school - where do you hope he'll study ?
academics apart - all 3 are great Christian mission schools, with good character teaching foundation sets in early, to guide and teach these young gentlemen grow up with wisdom, and in favor with God and with men.
looking long term - if you prefer him to go Hwa Chong next time, perhaps Pei Hwa SAP school will provide him the added advantage, like a fish swimming in water.
if you prefer him to grow up in affliated ACS Secondary, depends on 2B balloting statistics then, decide from there.
your long term goal may affect your near term decision making. -
Do you know is peihwa affiliated to any secondary schools?
-
based on 'School information service', Pei Hwa is not affliated to any Secondary school:-

We choose Pei Hwa due to the Chinese cultures that we want our DS to be in. I am trying my best to communicate to DS in Mandarin now as I don't want him to fail Chinese and be a \"Kantan\". Always tell him he's a Chinese, and thus he MUST achieve a certain standard for this subject. Also, most kids nowadays are only good in English, unlike our era whereby we can speak English, Mandarin, dialets, etc.
Why don't you have a scoring system for the 3 schools and see which suits your criteria most? Once you have decided, just go for it. Do the best for your child's 6 yrs of primary school education and leave the rest to God. -

To us, affiliation is not important as we prefer DS to fight base on his own merit. If you have done some work, you would have realised that most schools are increasing the COP for the affiliated primary schools to get into the sec. SJI COP was merely a 3-pts difference. With more and more schools going IP, the difference will be minimal in future as all would want to attact good students. -
Yes, indeed this is true.
more and more affliated Sec schools are now raising the bar for COP (cut off point) slowly, in order to attract and retain back high scorer, affliated primary school pupils to get in, instead of losing their own home grown pupils each year batch, as they tend to head for hot, popular top Tier 1 Sec IP schools. The top 6 Sec IP schools normally refer to - RI, RGS, HCI, NYGH, NJC and catching up fast hot on the heel is NUS High (a unique, highly specialized Sec school leading to a Diploma, instead of an 'A' level certificate). Thus, the gap difference between their own affliated students vs. external students from other outside schools - is gradually closing up, getting narrower and narrower, as time pass.
some affliated Sec schools in fact look forward to welcome this move. Some Sec schools intend to raise each year COP, up by 5 points. The feedback was that some primary affliated pupils tend to take for granted that they can just walk across easily conveniently to the Sec school next door, after P6. Now the Sec schools want to make the students work hard for it, earn their keep, to deserve a slot there. For an IP Sec school, the average minimum COP expected is around > 250. -

Not true lah. If ACSJ boys are offered GEP, they will automatically be offered a place in ACSP. They will not be in wait list. The GEP class is another class apart from the mainstream.
