MP is Members of Parliament for your consituency. If I were you, I would not solely depend on IO recommendation. Minimally a MP letter to AGC.
Hmmm, i am scared that i might blow up the matter and I do not want to disturb the MP for my son's mistake during these trying times. I shall wait and maybe give the police a call before doing anything. However, i appreciate your advise given! thank you so much šŸ™‚

So your son completed NS already right? 2 to 4 months were typical, Covid might delay further.
I think it was the act over value of item that took more weight. You could try aim for no further action verdict rather then stern warnings. Reason was the latter might or might not affect your son employment records. You could ask the lawyers on the types of warnings and their implications. Try look for veteran lawyers, they could advise better through their experience (most importantly make sure the consultation is free unless engage their service to represent your son). Did the police statement include the stress that your son was undertaking due to family issues?
It may help in their recommendation to AGC. Lastly, I missed out that you could make a request for your MP to write to AGC, include family issues and stress, especially during Covid period.

yeap, completed NS and with very very good conduct and awards during then. Yes, the police statement include family stress and his own personal problems, and he was remorseful and sorry for all the trouble and that he has learnt his lesson. I am unsure the exact words but this is what he told me as the police did not allow me to enter with my son into the room. Request for my MP? who is MP? My IO (investigating officer) told me he will recommend a warning when submitting to AGC already, hope he really stay true to his word.

Anyone can help me? my child was caught shoplifting about two months back and he is still studying and this is his first offence. He said he have learnt his mistake already and he wont do it again because of all the guilt he has in him. He have not been sleeping well lately because his case became complicated, he dragged his friends into giving police statement even though they were unaware of him shoplifting at that point of time. But now, everything is done and his statement is being sent to AGC. He admitted to shoplifting from the first statement. anyone knows how long it takes for AGC to get back to the police?

1st offence? Any previous records? Under 18? AGC would take 2 to 4 months thereabout to decide whether any further actions to be taken. Since your child had admitted in the police statement, suggest you talk to a good lawyer. Cos a good lawyer would advise you before you decide whether to engage their help, instead of pestering for engagement fees. Consultation is free. This would help some way in the acceptance of possible outcome.
Make sure the one who advised is the one who would represent. Hope it helps.

yeap first offence, but already turned 21.... cause i keep quarrelling with my hubby and i think my kid under alot of stress i not sure. Are you from a legal background? How you know 2 to 4 months? also, thanks for the advice, I will look for lawyers right now. I read online all say no need lawyer cause case small with low value items, less than $14 total and police tell me they will recommend warning to AGC.
