Thanks @autumnbronze
his class is on weekdays. There is no problem if make up class is in the same week. Problem is at long weekends or term breaks we normally travel. I used to repeat the lesson and make his homework together with him, but now he has a private teacher to help him do it and more
I will only stay in Berries until my younger one is old enough not to take long naps, because then I will not need to leave him sleeping alone at home when older brother is going for his class, which means i can drive further to the likes of tien hsia or kumon etc with him along. I read throughout the forum that Berries is only good for little children.
For now, I just need to accept their policy. At least I have the private teacher to help him through what Berries is not able to give regarding the make up classes. 10 min (15 min in your case) one-on-one certainly does not help.

RE: Berries - Discussion
Thank you all for replying to my posting about Berries make-up classes :lovesite: I am still trying to adjust with the policy of tuition centres. Not as flexible as I hoped it would be.
@Jar: So good that you can have make up classes, I almost can't believe that your kids go to the same branch haha...I did not have any problem, just like you, the whole of last year for replacement classes. I find that they are more flexible during the 'Berries Holidays' in June/Dec or if you attend a make-up class within the same week.
But come you are away for 7-8 days, then you will know what I mean. Students are already progressing to the next lesson so there is no make up class available for your previous week's lesson and some more it is not month of \"Berries holidays\". (I am not thinking of going for lessons in other branches). I am truthfully a bit disappointed that once, to make up for previous week's lesson where he was not able to attend, he was only given 10 mins before start of class in order to catch up. I thought it would be a 30 min 1-on-1 for each lesson missed as what he had last year during the Berries holiday.
When I said I might need to travel for 2 weeks (potential 2 missed classes), they say no make up lesson is available (was hoping for the 1-on-1 30 min with teacher for each lesson missed). But no, it's not Berries Holidays sadly so there is nothing that could be done...
anyway, I have managed to ask my mom to fly over to Sg to help take care of DS when I'm away so he will not miss any of his classes in school and Berries. Rather than I get my DS a come-10-min-earlier to catch up with the lesson. He is really in need for a good Chinese lesson since he doesn't come from a Chinese-speaking family
@jestsetter: yes I waited there when the admin looked at the sheet and said \"no make up classes available since it won't be in the same week, and it's not Berries holidays\",which she repeated a few times. Or \"I'll see what we can do, maybe ask the class teacher and we give you a call\" which she never did until I came the next week. As you mentioned, it is quite pointless after the week is gone. I guess it's the same policy no matter where you go in Singapore?
@sembgal: Not sure if Tien Hsia or other Chinese language/tuition centres in Singapore have the same policy. If it is, then I will not be able to travel during term-breaks -
RE: Berries - Discussion
Hi
Is anybody's dd/ds enrolled in Berries Kembangan? My ds has been attending classes since last year and he has absolutely NO progress. I understand that it is only a once a week class and that Chinese is not his mother tongue. Is going for private tuition more helpful?
I started to consider going private now. When he was in N2, we did not really travel or run errands a lot so we (the parents) had no problem in him not attending classes cause we had a makeup class. But only recently do I realise, with not so cheap tuition fee, they are absolutely not flexible about make up classes! They do have for i think the Berries holidays, but outside that, even if you have urgency and can't take your child to classes, it is almost impossible to get a make up class. The best I could come up with was with coming earlier 10 mins at the next class to brief him out of the previous class.
Guess they have one too many pupil there. Some more, even after talking to 3 admins including who I think is the manager there. NO courtesy calls AT ALL on 3 occasions after they promise me to give me news about whether or not he can change class to another day/can come earlier for make up class/can even get make up classes at all.
Does this happen in other branches too? How come they have so many admin there but they find it so difficult just to make a call? They always forget until I ask/remind them about my question, which I think is important because even with him attending classes still no progress, what about him having no make up classes?
It's not like ask for a make class every month, or even every term?!
My sister who has just registered her dd there also reported she had the same problem. Is it worth it to attend classes in Berries, do parents whose children do not speak Chinese as their mother tongue make improvement and can cope with lessons in school? Am considering going private or change to another place since Im worried he won't be able to cope with Chinese in P1 -
