Thank you very much folks for your encouraging words, kind advice and the PMs! I feel so touched by all of you. I am sure my little boy will be fine soon.
Yes, I totally agree that in classes where more than 3/4 cleared the screening, teachers need to be more discrete/ sensitive when distributing the letters. Alternatively, MOE can mail out the letters. I will feedback to my child's school as I do not hope same thing to happen to next year cohort. Every year, there will be a handful in HA classes who will be unsuccessful.
Actually, apart from NYPS, it is very common that in most SAP or GEP schools where P3 classes are streamed, the top 2 HA classes will have 35/40 or 36/40 students clearing the first round. My nephew is from another Hokkien Huay Kuan SAP school and in his class, 36 qualified for round 2. Only 4 were unsuccessful. Almost same as my DS’s class, GEP-SAP school. I heard in the mix ability classes, there are also 10 or more that cleared round 1. Very good performance.
*Hugs* to all kiddos who did not clear round 1 and for those who will be taking round 2, have fun!

RE: GEP 2015 - Screening & Selection
In his reddened eyes, DS told me he went to the boys’ toilet and cried secretly in the cubicle while almost the whole class was cheering and celebrating. He wanted to call me but he does not have a phone. He told me his heart pounded so fast and he was almost breathless when the whole stack of ‘white papers’ were distributed and his name was still not being read out by his form teacher. I can imagine the anxiety at that moment. My goodness!! He was one of the rare few in the class who failed to make it to the 2nd round. There are another 3 -4 classmates who were also among the top in their P2 classes and did not make it for selection round.
I admit I do hope he at least make it through the first round, I have never tell him that. I have always been telling him that whatever the outcome; he is still my cute and smart little boy. Sigh! I did not expect that he will react so negatively and so upset over a test. Perhaps I should not have signed him up for the GEP screening. I guess the impact is worse for kids in HA classes due to peer pressure. Anyway this is over and I told him the focus should now be on his SA2 and nothing else. I really hope he will get over soon.
Meanwhile, my heartfelt congratulations to all your kiddos who make it to the selection round! All the best!

Thanks gingertae!love.actually:
I understand results are released by clusters. Those schools in the same cluster as Poi Ching should have already received the letters from MOE. However, these schools may or may not released the results to the students today. Some schools may also send out emails to inform parents that their child is in for the selection round.
Names of schools by clusters.

Latest update, by yesterday late afternoon, all schools had received the letters from MOE.
Expect most schools to distribute the letters on Mon or latest by Tue.
Popular schools with bigger cohort size (e.g. more than 270 students), do expect some delay as these schools need more time for administrative work such as recording of results etc.. -

RE: Where to buy spectacles for kids?
Hi all, thank you for sharing. Yes, I heard there are many optical shops at Toa Payoh Centre. Will make a trip there this weekend.

RE: Where to buy spectacles for kids?
My son has been changing the spectacle frames so many times and still we can’t one that is truly comfortable!! He keeps complaining that either the frame keeps slipping down his nose or the grip hurts his ears after wearing for a while. As a result, he refuses to wear in class and his eye sight turns from bad to worse! I heard of Swissflex (heard it is so light that the child can’t feel he is wearing a spectacle at all) but I can’t find an optical shop that carries this brand. Many optical shops that i went to told me that this is just a branded spectacle, too expensive as just a frame alone, without the lens, costs more than $300. Considering that I have already wasted so much money on spectacles, I really do not mind investing on one that is really comfortable. If you know of any optical shops that carry Swissflex or if you know of any brand which is good, please share with me. Greatly appreciate!

RE: All About GEP
Yes, my son also says English is 2 marks per question vs Math 1 mark per question so English has a higher weightage for screening round.
