    • RE: MY World (operated by Metropolitan YMCA)

      Any thoughts on this school?

I’m thinking of placing my girls in the new branch (boon keng) near my house but need some insights into the teachers, the sch culture. Anyway here is my review of boon Keng branch:

Amenities: located in void deck area. non Aircon. Newly opened so sch is bright and airy. Windows are kept open so public can view the going-ons anytime. No playground or water play area inside. Teachers will have to bring the kids to the void deck to play.

Surroundings: construction of new bto just next to it so it might get noisy or dusty.

Staff: principal is a temp one from another branch. During the orientation the teachers were not confirmed yet so couldn’t really make a good judgement. The teachers on orientation day were from other branches and they seem pretty quiet to be honest.

Fees: $749 and add on $50+ if you want enrichment like speech and drama. I thought anchor operators have a fee cap of $720. Don’t know why they can charge $749.

Culture: they seem quite resistant to change, I suggested some things to them but the feeling I got was they get defensive and didn’t really take heed of my suggestions. A bit of a brush off feeling.

      Hope to hear more reviews.

    • RE: Did student care center close during excursion

CC not supposed to close during excursion days. I read before in the regulations online. You can remind them of their obligation to stay open, apart from the 7 days a year.

During excursion days, the operator will prefer that all kids can go excursion because if 1 kid stay behind means a teacher must stay back too. And most schs are usually already tight on manpower so they might also try to persuade parents to tag along the excursions.

    • RE: My First Skool (former NTUC Childcare)

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I registered my newborn 3 months before he was born for a branch that just opened in January 2014 but I’m told that waiting list has 60 babies ahead of mine. (I thought I was very kiasu already!)

Does anyone know 60 babies equals how long waiting time on average? I’m going back to work in March.

    • RE: Newton Kindergarten

I’m planning to register my boy for next year’s pre-nursery class (for 3 y.o). I’m a FTWM for now, having thoughts of changing to PTWM in 2014 but it’s just a thought at the moment. Any FTWM / PTWM who send your kids to NK? How do you cope with the half day hours? What are the after-school care arrangements for you?

I’m looking at the PM session (12pm to 4pm) since the AM session all full. My son is attending full day childcare now.

    • RE: Novena/Balestier preschool

LV at Gentle Road has no vacancies at the moment for 18month old. $1200 per month. I just called yesterday. They have closed the IRAS one.

PMI which is also at that area is $1650 per month.

Balestier – the new Zhongsan Park will have mindchamps.

    • Childcare in Boon Keng

Hi, I’m looking for a cc for my 18 mth old urgently. I don’t have a car so I need somewhere within 5min walking distance from Boon Keng MRT or Farrer Park MRT. Can share with me reviews, fees, or point out some childcare which I missed out?

      MFS McNair - Full
      Bestcare Montessori - Full
Ameba Schoolhouse - This is new. $1300/mth. Have yet to visit. Located inside the industrial office area.
Academy Kidz - $980/mth. Just opened inside the new Hyflux building. Very few students so they mixed all the age group and have 2 teachers to handle all of them - not a very good arrangement I feel.
Creative Star - Have yet to visit or call up.
Mindchamps at City Sq - $1712/mth. I visited and posted my observations on the MC thread.

It is hard to find an affordable, accessible and good childcare in Boon Keng!!
