Hi all, my DS was not offered a place in LKC. Disappointed especially since it has been a very long wait, but I'm sure he will be able to excel in another course.
With your continued encouragement and support, your intelligent and resilient son will thrive in his course. It is not necessarily a bad outcome.

Take some time to rest. All the best to you and your son.

This year's thread has lots of helpful information for future applicants. Only have to read through many pages šŸ˜“

All the best to your DS for a happy outcome, kibblesmoke. (Possibly one of only a few) Last man standing šŸ†’

The system of selection even though has been diversified, it is still not picking up the best of the crops. Many potential applicants that can truly be good doctors have been left out by such a system.

I still feel that the system should be fine tune so that when an applicant that has applied for both medicine school and got offered by both schools, should only be allowed for one acceptance of the school that offered them. Take away the practise of wait-lists that I see promote duplication of offering and a waste of time and resources. Since an applicant that want to study medicine should be glad and grateful to accept the offer from either school. The duplicate offer cause havoc, chaos and bottleneck of those in the queue.

The inspiration to study medicine start from childhood and during their JC, POLYTECHNIC or ITE. Besides good academic and other excellent credentials, the medicine schools should also look at those exemplary applicants who have been working hard in the background silently voluntarily helping the weak and needy and were unable to present it in their application due to a gap in the transition in time and period of the application that taken place. Such important qualities of the applicants should not be missed out in the process of the selection interviews.

Well, it's not the end for those credible students who did not make it to study medicine. With their courage, love, compassion and dedication, surely they can truly be great and successful in whatever they do.
The current selection process will never be able to pick up all the best of the crop but who is \"best\" in their eyes may also not necessarily be who we think. It is true that there will be many that can truly be good doctors who are left out but maybe they think the cost of refining the selection outweighs the benefit.

If anything, as you said, those armed with good qualities and credentials will still be able to find success and happiness in other fields. It is also good for everybody to spread such talent around and not just in medicine lah. :celebrate:

My sensing is that besides favouring non-RI/ HCI Jcs, YLL is looking for a certain kind of personality, ie those who will make good General Practitioners eg those who are relaxed/ cheerful and can connect well with people and not so much the academic types. As for LKC, I am surprised that those with high BMATs were not offered a place. It could be that their MMI did not go well.

There were only 2 stations this year for YLL. No SJT. One station to talk about yourself and another ethnic station. I honestly do not see how that single interviewer could sieve out the personality and motivation of a student based on a less than 10 mins interview. LKC has 5 stations this year with 5 interviewers. Very fast moving and much more challenging than YLL. Bmat is not merely an academic test. It tests the natural abilities of the kids too.

Yup, quite a few very impressive RI kids with straight As, h3 distinctions, high Bmat, impressive cca leaderships, research, olympaid winners, did not get any offer this year. They have very nice personalities too. Think they took up other scholarships in the end. I am sure these other scholarship interviews also look for excellent personalities and leadership qualities... That's why I said, all tee kiam tee kiam šŸ™‚ ... Selection committee has the final say and u do not know what they look out for.

It is possible that these are the very types of profiles (excepting very nice personalities) that YLL does not want. Maybe they don't fit what they perceive as those who will make good GPs. Too ambitious perhaps? But I agree that with so many shortlisted candidates, there will be a certain degree of tee kiam involved.

Heard that the YLL waitlist moved yesterday. Just updating those who are keeping track.

Please note that wrt to disruption, there are going to be waves. It's not just one batch.

For eg, the Jan batch would MOSTLY have gotten their disruption offers signed already. The April batch will get theirs later on after they have POP from BMT (as this is a requirement for disruption). There will then probably for another batch for a smaller group that might only get their medicine offers later on in the year (waitlisted students).

For waitlist of NUS/NTU medical student, you need to wait patiently, it could take very long time. Because there is NS disruption factor for boys.
This year, due to Covid-19, the NS Enlistment dates for some batches were delayed, My DS is on February Batch and he has not received any information about NS disruption. Before settle all the NS disruption matters, the hope for waitlist are going to stay.
As shared by Ngfamrox and Seya, the med schools will most likely have vacancies from the NS boys who were offered but are unable to obtain disruption for this year and those who decline the disruption offer (maybe due to unfavourable terms). The April batch should POP in early July. Due to Covid19, this year's waitlist is moving later than prior years due to (among other reasons) the late enlistment of the April batch.

Well, one cannot fight one's fate. Right this moment we can only put one's trust in GOD. At least it will make one feel less burdened. Hopefully GOD will bless all our children in the waitlist with LUCK, afterall we are Living Under Christ's Kindness, GOD's most beloved son. Let us all wait.
Another poster said the same thing. Thanks proudmum.

Sorry, not trying to be discouraging to bring bad news but I noticed in previous years, very few students on waitlist get offers. So better to be realistic. Should u get the slot eventually, it will be a bonus. In this way, at least the students can move on and plan for the next course...especially if the student is a female.

I wonder if more students who would otherwise go overseas have decided to stay on in Singapore instead? if 10 of them decide to do so... it would mean success rate of waitlisters would get even smaller...
proudmum, yes, better to be realistic. It's very tough for the girls unless they take a gap year to reapply. But the ABAS route is not easy as well.

TurtleSoup, yes definitely the Covid19 has spooked some bright students who would otherwise have gone overseas and they would include those in Med. Not sure how the NS disruption would play out though. It might add a few more vacancies this year. Too many factors to consider. We shall bravely wait on.
