RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Hi Ragamuffin Shinobi,
I remember having to check SOTA’s website intermittently for news of their junior academy which is usually held during the school holidays. If I recall correctly, the one my daughter attended last year on theatre design was from 18-20 Nov and another earlier one for art during the Sep hols. You may wish to keep a lookout for one to be held this Nov. Perhaps it’s best for you to just call SOTA up and enquire.
I don’t believe a child needs to attend such courses in order to be considered for admission into SOTA. However, I would strongly recommend that you sign your child up for one as your child will be given a chance to see if he/ she likes the environment, facilities and mode of instruction. My daughter was inspired to apply for the talent academy this year after attending two such courses when she was in primary 5. I must say SOTA is very savvy in reaching out to potential students in this way. -

RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Hi Sam02,
I too am curious as to how many foreign students SOTA admits a year. During the TA, I saw a number of foreign students (esp for theatre, I believe) and wonder how many are admitted each year.
The no. of places in SOTA is already so limited and it being a national school, I don’t see why a cap on the no. of foreign students shouldn’t be imposed.
Is there anyone too who feels this way and who can address my query as to how many foreign students are accepted each year? The school management is likely to keep mum over this. -

RE: School Of The Arts, Singapore
Does anyone know how many made the shortlist this year? And from that number, how many more will be eliminated?
This is the first year that SOTA has introduced shortlisting. What could be the possible reason behind this - did SOTA expect a deluge of applicants this time round? -

Hi anonymousguru,
Thanks for being so forthcoming in your reply about what the CE entails.
As for the still-life drawing component, what kind of objects can a candidate expect to draw and how much time is given to complete that? -

Hi Alicorn,
Thanks a lot for answering my query about LCD

Hi rexcaliburr, really appreciate your prompt response and generous sharing:)
Like what you said, it appears the panel doesn’t seem to want to see artworks that are too highly polished. It’s a certain intrinsic spark that they are looking for and I guess that’s what only the trained eye can truly discern.
All the best to you for the rest of Year 3! -

By the way, the requirements for this year’s VA portfolio submission has increased from 8 works in previous years to 10-15. Any idea why that is so?
