School Of The Arts, Singapore

Hi Bijoux888,
I think there are pros and cons in any decision. Especially for something holistic, it is difficult to put the pros and cons on a lever and measure it. For me, i look from the perspective of what is suitable for my child first, instead of which school is suitable first.
Looking at dd's dance exam results, i think she is good in it. Soon, the dance teacher in her enrichment class could not satisfy her anymore. So in order for her to pursue her passion, at the same time pursue her studies, seems like SOTA is a good choice. How many of us get to enjoy this during our generation? When your direction is clear, the pros seem to overcome the cons.
Hi Anonymousguru,
Sounds like you are a proud SOTA student but maybe experiencing some stress. Well ask any student in Singapore, who doesn't have? So keep your chin up, play hard, and study hard
Hi Bebe,
Sorry, no answers for you. But seems like TA and audition work hand-in-hand and application should be before PSLE results, otherwise it will not be DSA right.. I bet nobody has data on how many vacancies are there as the school doesn't disclose. -
A couple of years back, I remember sota having some program called the junior academy. And last year or so, the conducted workshops for interested p5 and 6 students. I can’t seem to find them on the sota website anymore. Do they still have such courses?
Reason I’m asking is coz my child heard that she has to attend these courses to be considered for admission to sota. Does anyone know if this is true? -
Hi Ragamuffin Shinobi,
I remember having to check SOTA’s website intermittently for news of their junior academy which is usually held during the school holidays. If I recall correctly, the one my daughter attended last year on theatre design was from 18-20 Nov and another earlier one for art during the Sep hols. You may wish to keep a lookout for one to be held this Nov. Perhaps it’s best for you to just call SOTA up and enquire.
I don’t believe a child needs to attend such courses in order to be considered for admission into SOTA. However, I would strongly recommend that you sign your child up for one as your child will be given a chance to see if he/ she likes the environment, facilities and mode of instruction. My daughter was inspired to apply for the talent academy this year after attending two such courses when she was in primary 5. I must say SOTA is very savvy in reaching out to potential students in this way. -
Thanks mamabung! I remember seeing those last year but not this year. Was wondering if they still had it. Will try calling up soon. .Thanks again!

No worries, Ragamuffin shin obi
Am sure SOTA still has such workshops but do book early as the places fill up fast. -
Hi remember me? I’m a current sec 2 student who wanted to transfer into SOTA at the start of this year but missed the date by one week…
Anyway I still haven’t given up hehe I’m going to try to transfer in during December this year for VA.Just wanted to ask if there are any other sec 2s doing the same as me? and to current sota students who have gone for auditions before, what can I expect and what advice do you have to give because the school website wasnt very clear about the details for transferring for current sec sch students -
Does anyone know if it is nec for child to have gone thu Junior Academy in order to be successful at TA?
I contacted SOTA about JA and was told that it is only thru school nomination and that it is not necessary for success in TA. It is just to give the child an idea of what the school is about etc.
I contacted my child’s school about it and got conflicting info. The person in charge said that she was told that it is important as those who did not attend JA will not be successful at TA. And that my child can still try to go for JA next July/August (even tho I pointed out that the TA is in June). Confused.
Has anyone gotten into SOTA (specifically dance) without doing the Junior Academy in P5? -
Your child’s school is wrong. JA is not compulsory and does not guarantee your child a place in SOTA.

Thanks sotamama!

Hello everyone! I'm really keen to transfer into SOTA for music next year. And I was wondering if there are any SOTA students or parents whom can tell me whether is there any vacancy for Year 3 next year? Thank you in advance!
