    • RE: * Raffles Institution (RI) - Year 5-6

      Hi,

Would like to ask if anyone knows about RI’s placement test for the Singapore Biology Olympiad i.e. format of test, standard of questions (pegged at Sec 4 level or A level), what type of questions etc.

My DS will be sitting for the placement test on Wednesday. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏻

My DD is Sec 2. So I can only provide info for this batch.
      1) 9 classes in total
      2) 35-36 students per class
      3) mostly per meal is less than $3
      4) No batch chat; only class chat for parents allowed. My batch started a batch chat in the beginning. But it was closed after a few weeks as the school said they will arrange for class chat (with a PSG volunteer inside each class) instead
      5) no fixed ratio but definitely more girls than boys in the school
      6) chromebook

    • RE: * Raffles Institution (RI) - Year 5-6

For Year 5, my son is thinking of taking 2 science subjects and 1 Maths. He’s deciding between Economics or History. He’s interested in History but worried about the content load of History. He heard his friends said Economics is “lighter” but this is a new subject which he hasn’t touched before. Any advice from parents in relation to these 2 subjects pls? Thanks.

My child is interested to take triple science + history/ss in Sec3. May I know if any parents have kids in this subject combi and can share any experience or insights? I prefer her to take 2 science subjects + 2 humanities but she has no interest in Geography or Lit and prefers science. Thanks

Yes SS is within 5 elective humanity:
SS + Geo = elect. Geo
SS + Hist = elect. Hist
      Thanks both!

All Upper Sec students take these subjects:

      1 English
      2 Chinese
      3 A math
      4 E math
      5 Elective Humanity (chose 1 from Geo/Hist/Eng lit/Chi lit)
      6/7 chose 2 from Phy/Che/Bio

For students score >=70 in Sec 2 sci and math
      8 3rd sci

For students score >=65 in Sec 2 humanity
      8 chose 1 from Pure Geo/Hist/Eng lit/Chi lit

Cannot take 2 humanity if already in triple sci.

      Students selected for elective subjects:
      9 Malay/Music/Art electives
      :thankyou:

May I know how many subjects that students normally take in Upper Sec? 9 or 8? Assuming pure science combination.

Can triple science take with double humanities? Or just one humanity subject. Thanks.

Good idea to convey our voice to the school. In fact, I have already sent the message to the school. But the school just replied that it would consider this in the future. sad. I hope PSG can do something about this.
No need be sad lah. Going to CCHM should be an exciting journey and I am sure both you and your child should be looking forward to it since it’s your choice!

If you are so concerned about getting enough sleep for your child, why don’t you consider to move his/her bedtime earlier by half an hour? Wouldn’t this be easier than getting the entire school to change the school hours? No offence, but I really cannot understand your logic leh :boogie:
