    • RE: Marital house issues

Is it that the unmarried son who lives in the hdb that belonged to parents who passed away will automatically inherit the house when there’s no will? Got such thing? There are many cases of families having the house as the only inheritance, if the unmarried child still resides in ,he gets the whole house while the other sibling ,though is married, gets no inheritance?

SimKhoo is correct. My house was given almost 20 years ago and is not part of the estate. The lawyer in charge of settling the inheritance said that the parent’s house is supposed to split equally. I didn’t mention nor harp about this to my husband but I just wonder why it wasn’t carried out. The PPO is because his late mother wanted me to stop supporting my elderly parents for the children financial support (she must be worried about my husband’s money not able to last). Of course I didn’t agree. Then my husband started insulting my parents being poor and treated me as money tree (what’s wrong with filial piety)

His sibling has the same amount of cash inheritance as him, and supposed to split the parent’s house equally too. The main difference is he’s a bachelor now in 50s. My husband has a family to feed and not willing to work thinking his money of 1.7mil (not sure how much left after these 5 years) will last. Doesn’t give me allowance for daily expenses on the kids, kids education and household, using the matrimonial house paid by his father as excuse. Kept insulting and look down on my parents, saying they are poor and treat me as money tree (he has no regard to filial piety) when I actually only give them a few hundred a month ,kept hurling vulgarities at me for the last few years, a lot of police cases , Family service centre , and now women’s charter involved.

I’m currently filing Personal protection order against him for family violence (a lot of things happen in the house). I didn’t mention about his parents house to him at all but I’m just ranting to the fellow parents here. He’s the one who kept asking me to pay half for our matrimonial house. I’ve asked my lawyer and she assured me there’s no such thing .

My kids are young in primary school ages. He doesn’t want to work and hasn’t been working for many years. When I said the house is given by his father and that he didn’t give a single cent, he shouted that I have a different surname from his family , reminding that it’s from his side of the family. Glad to know I should get a lawyer for advice to address my future financial concerns .

I’m not sure how much he has left, as he is so Yaya papaya these few years and his friends think he is rich cos he klkk yet his 3 kids and family is alright, he generously spends on whatever friends he feels are important to curry favour. One of the members suggested seeing a lawyer regarding future ,I feel it’s possible cos I’m also forward looking, wanting to protect my kids and my future retirement too .

His name cannot appear in his parent’s house as it’s also a hdb. Based on lawyer dealing with the inheritance, the house should be split among both brothers cos there’s no will. What I’m not happy is that instead of dealing with his bro who’s still staying in the parents house,he is giving me trouble for these past 4-5 years since his parents were gone. I’m trying to find out what are the options available, what can I do with it

He’s only in early fifties. He laughed at me when I said it would not last. I hold a job, scared that I would need to support him when he’s older, with his health and finance problem, and he might again say that "eat his live his, use his" his usual phrase
