RE: All About Kids' Eye-sight
Hello, I am a paediatrician.
Personally, I would not recommend young children to wear Ortho K lenses as they tend to find it uncomfortable. It would be better to let them wear specs instead.
However, pls check with your child's optician. I have had parents who asked me about it before, and I will tell them to consult a paediatric ophthalmologist as it really varies from situation to situation. For younger children, spectacles will be best. They will advise professionally and safely. Hope this helps!

RE: Methodist Girls' School (Secondary)
Hi, I would like to know the minimum number of subjects that an IP student in MGS takes. Eg. the ‘norm’ subject combination. TIA

RE: Tanjong Katong Girls' School
TKGS School Hours: 7.30am - 2.45pm daily (Sec 1 and 2s end at 1.55pm on selected days only)
CCA days for Dance: Monday and Wednesday (3pm - 6pm)
Is it a demanding or stressful school? It can be tough at times, but so long as there is a positive attitude, there will be no problem. -

Don’t need to buy skirt as it is for prefects only. Pinafore will be for the rest of the students. School shoes must be 100% white (soles can be black). Discipline is very strict in TKGS. Must follow school rules.

RE: All About Ballet
Hi Swissclover,
Most dance school’s would require students to take the exam before advancing to the next grade. This is very important if your DD intends to DSA. She needs to reach Grade 5 in order to do so. You should get your daughter to take the exam. However, if she is not keen, don’t force her - let her dance recreationally. -
RE: Methodist Girls' School (Primary)
My P4 girl is mid-stream transfer student though. She did not need to attend any auditions. I only had to email the HOD to select her CCA.
But I heard from a friend that CCAs like dance need to audition (back in 2014). Not sure if its still applicable now. -

Thank you so much!
Yup, we are a English and Chinese (sometimes) speaking family.
Sent the kids for Chinese and phonics classes when they were younger. I make sure they spend an equal amount of time reading English/Chinese books too!
I know that MGS really requires good command of English. I hope that by enforcing bilingualism at home will benefit her!
Also, quick question:
For CCAs, how does one choose it? Need to attend auditions for primary school? TIA. -
RE: Methodist Girls' School (Primary)
Hi, my daughter will be in MGS P1 (2022).
I would like to know what I will have to prepare her for before entering P1. I think that her preschool has already prepared her well based on social skills and academics. I do not want to force her to start studying for P1 yet though, but I would like to know if there are topics that I will have to speak to her about. Like friendships? Do MGS girls encounter any friendship problems (during my time, thankfully I did not)? Or do I need to mentally prepare her for exams/tests/homework?
First child problems… don’t have experience! Thanks in advance! -
RE: Tanjong Katong Girls' School
Hi phtthp. My DD is taking Economics at TKGS.
From what I have heard, there is no TYS for Sec 3. Practice papers will be given to students instead. Economics is an uncommon subject in SG so not a lot of schools offer it, hence there is limited resources.
The TKGS Econs teacher is very kind… will prepare notes and practice booklets for sec 3.
I heard that in Sec 4, the school bookshop will buy the econs TYS for the girls.
Popular does not sell Econs TYS. Must buy through school at Sec 4.
