    • RE: All About Market Rates of Private Tutors

      Greenbeam2019\" post_id=\"1914656\" time=\"1560651328\" user_id=\"178490:

You are right. However, the public will not know the real change. An experienced full-time tutor will not know the full change unless he/she is in MOE. That’s why some parents rather pay a slightly higher fee for MOE teacher to be their child’s tutor.

When choosing private tutor, do have these few qns in mind for the tutor:
      1) U know how my child will be assessed in school?
      2) Are u only teaching my child to be only examination smart?
      Etc
An experienced full-time tutor will know WHERE to get the information regarding changes to the syllabus. Changes to syllabus happen very often. The information is freely available to the public.

A CURRENT MOE teacher will only be informed about specific changes to his/her subject and level. They wouldn't be aware of other subject and/or levels - unless they went to find out - what they teach in their own schools.

      You asked people to think of two questions;
      1) U know how my child will be assessed in school?
      - Assessment methods are released by SEAB and the school. Whatever is released by SEAB can be found. Whatever is released by the school must be shared by the parent to the tutor. Even for current MOE teachers, they need the parent to share information released by the school as each school is different.

A full-time tutor with numerous students will be better able to make informed guessed about assessment methods as we have students from various schools - some of the students might be the same. A current MOE teacher will only know for his/her school but not the others.

      2) Are u only teaching my child to be only examination smart?
This depends on the individual's pedagogy rather than if they are full-time tutors or current MOE teachers.

    • RE: Do tuition centres still continue to run P6 class afterPSLE?

The tuition centre that I operate stops immediate once that paper is over. Usually, I recommend parents to let their kids rest a little first and engage them in non-academic pursuits.

However, we start classes for S1 in December. We revise important concepts learnt in primary school that will form the foundation for secondary as well as introduce some of the concepts for S1.

    • RE: P1 Tution -- Necessary?

As an educator, I’ve been asked this question many times. Tuition has never been a necessity - it is a luxury service provided to your child if the parents can afford it.

If your child is starting Primary 1 soon, don’t rush them to tuition centres first. Let them have some time to adjust to the school system. Help your child by ensuring they sleep early (like around 9pm) so that they have sufficient sleep (8-9 hours) before school the next day. Ensure that they completed all their homework (do not help them, let them struggle with it) and revise regularly (i.e. look through the textbooks, workbooks, notes handled by the teachers every 1-2 weeks). Make it a habit for your child to pack his/her schoolbag BEFORE going to bed. Encourage your child to read storybooks and short passages written in English AND your mother tongue. Encourage your child to speak in full sentences, to pronounce each word clearly even if it meant slowing down the entire conversation. If they performed poorly for a test, reflect with them and revise the learnt materials. If they continue to perform poorly, contract the school teachers to find out the situation.

Get professional help (tuition centre, home tutor) if the teachers agree that your child is struggling academically OR the problem persists despite the teachers’ reassurance.

If you don’t have sufficient time to ensure he completes his homework and learns his spelling, you can consider student care services within the school or near the school. Most community-based student care services (near the school) typically offer tuition services as well.

I usually recommend parents to check with the centre
      1) How much screen time is given to the children?
      - The fewer the hours, the better

      2) Does the centre have facilities for a shower?
      - This is important! Your child will be out for 12 hours daily. They would often be running around, playing, sweating etc.

      3) Does the centre have supervised study time daily?
      - At least 60-90 minutes daily, allowing them to finish their homework & learn their spelling.

      4) Does the centre provide homework?
Student care centres should not be assigning homework! Tuition centres should be assigning few or no work to the child!

    • RE: Rental questions

      happy88mum:
      hi,

will the agent help to collect the rental for the 2 years?thanks so much
Agent's job is only to help rent out the unit. Once the tenancy agreement (TA) is signed & the monies for the deposit and 1st month's rental is paid...his/her job is completed. Most agents collect 1-2 month's rental fees for this service depending on the length of the TA and the rental amount (above or below market rate).

Anything that happens after is out of goodwill. Typically we will try to help resolve any issues between the landlord and the tenant. Mostly it has to do with the repair fees for something spoiling/breaking down.

Collection of rental will fall under property management. The agent will help to manage the property - leasing, furnishing, breakdown/spoilage, collection of lease. In this case, we are considered property manager and collect a monthly retainer fee regardless if its vacant, occupied or rented and the price of which it is rented.

Hi after EC TOP understand we have to sell our flat within 6month . In the event we unable to sell of at 6month what can we do ?

You can appeal to the EC developer to delay the taking over the EC or appeal with HDB for a time extension. Whatever it is, it is a case-by-case basis. Therefore, it is better to market fast, market early.

    • RE: HDB and Condo

If you have appointed a exclusive agent, just sit back and relax. You can check from time to time if his advert are searchable on property portals.

If it isn’t, time to change it. If your property price is reasonable, you will be able to see some viewings here and there…and definitely some offers along the way even if the price isn’t what you’re expecting.

    • RE: Is there a long term demand for accountancy grads?

      mummyxoxo:
Just curious, does anyone have any idea of the pay range for fresh graduate in big 4 and in stat board (accounting related)? From what I heard, big 4 starting pay is $2.9k. Isn't this much lower than the median pay for fresh graduate nowadays?

Yes, Big 4 has a lower starting pay of between $2.7k to $3k depending on your class of honours. However, their salary increment is very fast as the review is held very often and each jump can be a few hundred.

My friend started at $2.7, 1.5 years later he is getting $4k.
