    • RE: All About Choosing and Buying Violins

      princesspiggie:
hi can anyone advice whether it is better to get a synwin or eurostring as a first violin? am looking for a tuner as well. any recommendation is highly appreciated. thank you!

Hi. I am a violin teacher. It really depends. If you are looking to get a violin for your child, I recommend to go for lower cost violins as kids will grow and they will not be able to use their 1/2 or 3/4 for a long time before going for a full size (4/4) violin.
But if you are an adult beginner I would suggest to go for a better quality violin as the violin's sound really makes a lot of difference in your playing πŸ™‚

      cathyCAT:
      Hi all,

      need you help in this.

My daughter is currently at Grade 4 violin, however, she insists on having a lady violin teacher. She is very passionate about music and is very independent and mature in learning, going to Primary 2 next year. Thus she does not need a fierce teacher, as she wants to play her instruments well, pressurized by herself.

At this stage, I understand that having the right technique is very important so that she can progress to higher levels.

:?: Do you know of any good private violin teacher (lady) - current NAFA teacher or ex-NAFA teacher?

      Please do PM me.

      Appreciate your help. Thanks!

may i check when is the best age to start on the ABRSM ? i don't wish to pressurize my son but i think it will be a good achievement or goal to aim for..

currently my son and i have been on the violin course for nearly a month..he seem not motivated as me to want to practice...have to keep reminding myself not to pressurize him..sometime he just bow a few just to give me face...
      Hi lchunleo.

Let me share some details with you from a violin teacher's perspective and also a mother. I introduced the violin to my 20 months old baby girl about 3 months ago. At this stage, its more of exposing her to the violin, telling her that the violin is held with the left hand and bow on the right hand. After which, you can show them to put the bow on the strings, they will love it.
Do not expect them to play within the next year, but just keep exposing them to the instrument itself and play classical music on a daily basis.

You do not need to invest in a great violin at this stage. To be honest my daughter broke her first violin cause she threw it and stepped on it. Really cant blame them, they are an at exploration stage. When your child is older enough to understand how to take care of his violin, then you can invest in a better one. As the sound produced in a good violin is far better than a lower cost one. It is just motivating! You dont want your child to play on a cheap violin that produces a bad sound, really its not your child's fault that he/she is playing badly. it is just the cheap violin!

So in summary it is never too early to teach any instrument to your child. In fact it is always encouraged to teach kids at a young age as they have a greater ability to pick up things.

Hope this was helpful to you or any other parents out there that might have a similar case.

As a mother I know how important convenience is. Therefore, having https://www.learnviolinlessons.net at your own home is really the most ideal arrangement.

I have students whose parents insist on travelling out of their house for violin classes but the rate of continuation of lesson is lower than when the class is held at your own home.
True that some parents feel that it is better to learn at a teacher’s place because their own home is distracting or other siblings are around. However, it may come a time when travelling for classes becomes tiresome and students will have a higher chance of saying β€œlet's postpone the class to next week”.
https://www.learnviolinlessons.net/beginner-violin-lessons/ has to be a consistent activity. Twice a week is the best for beginners but at least once a week. Twice a week is really stretching it.
With this, I do hope you consider having lessons at your home or preferably learn from a https://www.learnviolinlessons.net/about-us/ who stays really near you.

      Hi Mummies and Daddies πŸ˜„

My name is Janice, a violin teacher and a mother to a cute 17 months old girl. I run a violin lesson platform called https://www.learnviolinlessons.net/ whereby I educate students on what they need to know about violin lessons and allocate a suitable teacher to start their violin lessons.

      My Goal:
In this thread I am going to share different posts with mummies & daddies out there, about dealing with kids to learn violin, as I know it is a challenging task to get our little ones to learn playing violin properly. Before I go on, I would like to give you some background on why I started Learn Violin Lessons.

      About Me:
I have been a violin teacher for the past 10 years. On my 8th year as a violin teacher, due to my pregnancy I had to let go of some of my students as I was not able to travel. I knew after giving birth I had to spend time with my daughter but I still wanted to be in contact with my students after giving birth, as my students had become friends over the years and I needed to know they are under the right care in their violin education.
Therefore, I decided I will pass some of my students to passionate teachers I personally know who have been known to be loved by many students because of their personality and capability of teaching the violin. This is when Learn Violin Lessons was born. Now that I have a team of violin teachers, I will be able to allocate a suitable teacher to each student and even take new students under my care if they stay near my place.

You can read more about me & other violin teachers who work with me here: https://www.learnviolinlessons.net/about-us/

β€œ Anyone of all ages CAN play the beautiful violin, you just need the right teacher and violin β€œ- Teacher Janice

Anyone got other natural remedy to cure running nose and block nose?

Hi. Try to go to a steam sauna if you have access to one. Slowly inhale and exhale for 10-20 minutes. This really helps. Warm vapours help to educe inflammation.

      Monster Mummy:
      Hi,

Can I know what is the minimum age for the kid to learn violin as most of school recommended age is 7 years. Maybe the reason is due to the strength required for them to hold the violin.
Every child is different in learning. I recommend age 4 onwards to start learning the violin. Age 2.5 -4 years, you can introduce them to basic music appreciation. πŸ™‚
