There is this child care in the north asking parents to pay $200 for an hour k2 concert for 4 seats. Is it norm to pay $200 for a k2 concert for 4 seats? I find it ridiculous....

Can't they just find a cheap place like in school to do it? Why should the parents bear all the cost???
Happens to me too. I have to pay over $50 for the concert costume and about $19 per adult seat. I too wonder why they can't have the concert in school anyway, it is just for K2 not even PSLE you know... Guess you are not so happy a daddy now...

Sorry no clues, my child is not currently in HW - I'm just eyeing that school.

I guess it's really a matter of luck whether your child gets a patient/impatient/caring/uncaring teacher. It's how you and your child react that will be key. We all will meet our fair share of nice/not nice people (bosses, subordinates, peers) - so maybe encountering a 'bad' teacher could turn out to be a good lesson afterall.
Well, it is one thing to have a bad teacher, but to have a scissors wielding teacher... :!:

Sounds scary. One thing to scold and admonish kids, another to be waving a scissors around.

Any parents with kids in HW who can share their experience?
      Hello Hquek,
Any idea on the name of the form teacher.. is this person still teaching in HW ?

Got to take precautions now that my kid is getting in next year ! :?

      Hi all,

Just to share some good news. My daughter is successful in the ballot this morning. She has secured a place in Hong Wen Primary School for 2010.
      Praise the Lord !

All the best to all of you intending to enrol your children in Hong Wen.

Congrats mgsim! Definitely luck was on your side today. Treasure and celebrate the moment, and then get down to business right away in preparing your kid for P1.

Thanks ChiefKiasu... yes the road is still a long way ahead.. am already preparing my girl for P1 since last year. She has been attending Kumon and I can see quite a lot of improvement in her maths and english.

Thanks too for this wonderful website. There are just so much resources here to tap on that I think will be useful for my girl !

      Congratulations!!!
Can share how was the balloting conducted like?

      my experience was :

8.55am : Reached the school... illegally parked on the yellow line somemore 😛
9.00am : Went into the school hall, and see tons of parents. Signed in beside DS name and sit down.
9.05am : Principal gave speech. Principal informed that there is a pair of twins, and if they are successful in balloting, they will take up 2 places...
9.15am : Parents took the name slips and passed to teachers-in-charge to be folder and placed into transparent fishbowl.
      9.20am : Balloting starts......
9.25am : ...Ng Jordan... !!! Yeah!! (One of the longest 5 mins for me.. :p)
9.30am : Confirm the names on the board... Yes! iT'S THERE!

Quite an 'exciting' event for me...

Congrats to you JordanMummy. Yes you very much described the balloting experience.. It was definitely a nerve wrecking and exciting experience. I was more nervous than when I took my school exams!

All my girl's K2 classmates got in. One of them was the last name called ! Can you imagine how relief the boy's parents must have felt !

Ryes, it's good for you if you can start PV 2 yrs before enrolment, so you don't have to experience all these anxiety...

      ChiefKiasu,
I like your icons.. so funny ..haha..

      Ryes,
My suggestion to you would be to start PV 2 yrs before your child enrols for P1. Then you will be eligible for Phase 2B.

      Luanee:

HPPS increased their total intake from original of 330 to 332 last year under 2C when there were 55 applicants for 53 places under 2C, all within 1km. No balloting was conducted as there were a pair of twins and triplets among them.
Actually I asked the school admin this. Since there are 7 classes and 6 more applicants than vacancies, why can't each class just take 1 more student. As you can guess, the answer is no. If only MOE could make a concession, it would spare a lot of parents a great deal of anxiety.

Yes. This is what the school admin told me over the phone. Did you all not receive calls from the school regarding the ballot ? I got a call from the school yesterday… They also told me they will pick 91 names from the ballot box and not just draw 6 names to disqualify.
