Gut feeling: observation during interview day at NYGH

CCA & sports –> 2 sheets of papers with names, each sheet of paper around 33-35 names
Academics –> many sheets of papers (5-8 estimated from the thickness of stack, not sure), each sheet of paper 23-25 names
You may do your math but I think it is all about luck.
