NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

Last year WL was 40. Not all sessions will be completely filled up. Personally, I won’t bother what is the WL % and whether rejection rate is high or low.

The CO acceptance rate is likely immaterial to one’s choice in school unless you are on the WL.
Personally , I would never base my choice on whether a school is more or less popular for CO acceptance.
The specialists schools base admission mainly on DSA so over a hundred odd places are CO annually . Meanwhile, the mainstream schools only offer CO for a handful of places of their 400-500 places every year. Even if rejection rates are transparent and equal , the law of numbers will point to higher notional numbers for a bigger universe of COs. Naturally , you need a bigger pool of WLs as compared to a mainstream school which hands out 10-20 COs. Also, bear in mind the entire Singapore male PSLE cohort are on WL for RI pending PSLE results.
Only 2-3k per cohort apply to NUSH so the acceptance rate is 6-7% or should we be using 0.6-0.7% for a cohort of 30k? To me, the numbers are pointless . If my child has a CO , then to us it’s 100% and if we choose to give it up then it’s 100% rejection. -

Agreed….and for those on WL, you need not be unduly worried as you have been given the reassuring statement that WL is as good as CO historically.

Congrats to all kids with CO and WL.
My DD is happy to get CO from nush. She might be the classmates of some of your kids.
will come back here to check again after Psle. -

Congrats! Congrats to all! Whether CO or WL, whether 5% or 100%, still have to get thru PSLE! Think kids are starting to feel it! But I am really glad at least there was a closure and answer from NUSH earlier rather than the long long wait for other schools!
Congrats to all kids with CO and WL.

Even if your DD isnt a classmate, definitely a school mate! Anyway there are only 170 of them!
Now lets get this PSLE over and done with! :rahrah: -

The kids will likely know everyone in their year by end of the year. A lot of opportunities to get to know everyone:

- Class ... 29
- Electives module x2 (about 50+)
- Mother Tongue ... about 30
- House ... about 30
- CCA ... about 15 (depending on what CCA)
- Interest Group
- others -
How many students are there in one class?
30? And 6 classes in total? -
I would like to ask about the supplementary intake in Nov. So the supplementary intake is more likely to be given to those from WL or to those who use PSLE mark? Maybe some experience mothers can help. Thanks
-
Base on my understanding, Supplementary intake will only be open if there’s still vacancies left after all the CO & WL has exercised their options.
1. CO
2. WL (If any CO reject)
If there’s still vacancies, then they will conduct SIE. Should be base on PSLE score and A* for both Maths & Science.
Not too sure if they take into the account of those who went for the camp as first priority.
Perhaps other senior members can advise. -

6 classes ... 28-29 students a class. Last time used to be 7 classes, with around 25 students a class. What I heard is because as students are being accelerated, pull out and etc ... having 28-29 students per class is easier to manage the timetable arrangement.
