Are you able to share the topics the sec 3 will be learning for term 3 & 4 for subjects Chem and Maths 1 and 2 in 2014? Thanks

my dd enjoys and survives her 1st day at DHS. Made some friends, thanks to the ice-breakers and cheers led by cheeky and tricky student leaders. I am glad she sings praises for her teachers, commented that they are quite friendly, readily giving them a welcome smile when they introduce themselves to the class. Some even told them not to worry if they forget or miss out certain announcements. I thought that is kind, especially to a new bundle of newbies, loaded with info.


Interestingly, my dd finds P very approachable! May be he hasn’t spelt out his rules to them, haha

Hope my dd sleeps well tonite(sleepless last nite!) and welcome the next new day with a bright new smile…

DHS rocks :rahrah: :rahrah: 13 more hours to go...

My dd got in DHS. The queue was so long. Instead of queuing, we went to register and explore the route to Mountbatten mrt station. When we returned, there was no queue, buying uniform and textbook was a breeze.


The talk by Principal was interesting and informative, peppered with interesting facts. Principal come across as a very driven person. That's good. How long has this Principal been around?

Yup, the queue was intimidating.
I did like what you did, went to 112 Katong for a leisurely lunch and by 12+ pm, there was hardly anyone around.
They did not have book 1 of the math textbook, so I had to go to Popular bookstore to get it.

I think the principal is weird but an interesting guy.
I did not quite like the way he switched between english and chinese.
I know that he is trying to show that he emphasizes bilingualism.
However, I don't encourage my kids to speak like that.
If speaking english, then it is english all the way.
Chinese, then chinese only.

I hope the vineyard will direct this piece of information about the switch attempted by P. I strongly discourage a conversation/talk peppered with English and Chinese. I advocate bilingualism but not his practice. Perhaps, I suggest he speaks purely in Chinese and get the head of English Dept to deliver in English. Or, Break the talk(same contents) into 2 groups in 2 venues, one presented in English and the other in Chinese. Hope he sees our feedback. just my 2cent worth of afterthought.

My two girls are in NJC and Nanyang Girls', as a parent I'd say if your child is hardworking, super bright, like the top of the top kind, go for Nanyang! I think that Nanyang is good for those who have developed early in their primary school/lower secondary years because they offer you heaps of endless opportunities if you're one of their top few students (esp around sec1-2). The cream of the crop, so to speak. BUT the thing is, if you're those average students there (like DD1), you'll feel stressed up and worse still, opportunities gone! There seems to be quite a 'sisterhood' there (as DD1 puts it) but lots of competition going on.


NJC, on the other hand, is quite contrasting. I'd say NJC is a more suitable school for those who aren't the \"cream of the crop\" kind, because they focus on every student and give almost equal opportunities to all, of course this will mean leaving the \"cream of the crop\" students feeling a little neglected. The approach NJC takes is pretty interesting and refreshing, though the bad thing is it is still in its pioneering batches and still 'experimenting around' a little here and there. In terms of competition DD2 says that if you like to be competitive then mix with the few competitive people lor, otherwise the rest of the people don't really compete.

Well that's just my honest and general (very vague) opinion on both schools, if you need more info on curriculum and CCAs feel free to ask! All the best for your DD's PSLE next year!
