RE: All About Choosing Piano Schools And Teachers
ngl2010:
Just did a quick check, because I wasn't sure either. So abrsm website said you need both.
Hi. I believe the requirement is Grade 5 theory OR practical. It is either one. Not both. Please correct me if I am wrong.MommySherrie:
My DD and DS's teacher mentioned that you can skip grades but there are some prerequisite for Grade 6 practical, which is Gr5 theory and practical.
But my view is that, my children also learn how to appreciate music as they progress and not only focus on the exams.

Just to clarify, what I meant is it's not necessary to sit for abrsm theory exam grade by grade. Only abrsm grade 5 exam is essentialsleepy:
By the way, it's not necessary to sit for theory grade by grade. Most go direct to grade 5 which is the essential grade

Managed to take a look at what some others wore today to the examination. Beside a boy who was dressed very formally, others are in uniform,pe shirt, saw one in regular home wear, one with long pants andtshirt.
Haha, I am probably one of those that send my kids straight from school for their music exams! -

RE: Which brand of pens are the best to be used for psle?
I don’t have any preferred pens for them to use, but I only allow ball point pen, scared the ink one will smudge too much.

RE: Any suggestions for family bonding time??
For the weekends, I would try to make the entire family do some spring cleaning so that they can learn some basic life skills.
- Baking: Teach them how to measure, time, proper mixing technique, temperature etc.
- Mopping: Teach them what causes the floor to be sticky, how to remove odour and also teach them how to be hard working and keen on details (I will make them push the sofa to a side and mop the underneath or pay attention to narrow corners and not miss it or pick up hairs)
- Cooking: The different utensils in the kitchen and how to protect themselves (e.g. water would cause the oil to splatter). . .
Thank goodness, they found it enjoyable! :boogie: -
RE: All About Music For Beginners & Selecting Instruments

My daughter has got very short attention span and gets bored extremely easily, but lucky, she picks up things pretty fast. So her piano teacher let her learn her exam pieces only 3.5months prior to the exam so that she doesn't get bored and stop practising.Which is a good grade or age to introduce violin, for those starting with piano? Thanks.
For kids taking grade one, can someone share their practice regime based on the three pieces? Practicing the same three shepieces for the next three months can be very boring.
So if your kids is able to take in faster, can seek the opinion of the teacher if they are able to learn at a later date? And also, my kid's teacher do not just solely focus on the 3 pieces. She includes other songs too, and only like a month before the exam that she would have the entire lesson based on the exam items.
But to do the above, she also said that the kids must practice on a regular basis too, otherwise the teacher also have no choice but to put more attention on the pieces so that they have a higher chance of passing. As for their practice timing, my son practices every day for 30mins, but the daughter only when I ask her too :skeptical: -
RE: All About Market Rates of Private Tutors
Hi, I'm a part-time tuition agent. For my tuition agency, my supervisor told me that if a tutor who wishes to sign up but refuse to prove their credentials to them or show to the parent, that tutor would be strike off the list immediately.
Then again, there are also tutors who are quite sensitive about their credentials (which I don't know why
) and will not want to show the agency and will only show the parents on the first day of lesson. But all in all, he told me that its a standard to show the certifications nowadays?
So if a tutor do not want to show you, I personally think they might not have the cert in the first place
