RE: Methodist Girls' School (Primary)
I am also an old girl of MGS. My experience was mixed. There were snobbish kids, there were also very friendly schoolmates who are still my friends now even though we were never in the same class before. I love MGS for it’s teachers and it’s activities. The school is always abuzz with a performance, a talent-time, a drama fest etc. It was lovely. I graduated in 1998 and still hold much fervor for my alma mater. Surely this is the school my future girls will go to.

RE: PSLE 2012 - Results Discussion
My friend’s kid had 192 and is wondering if a good school NA programme is better than a lower end Express school.

RE: Methodist Girls' School (Primary)
Hi MGS Moms and Educators,
I have 2 MGS newcomers under my wing in 2013. One in P3 and the other P4. Parents have asked me how the banding of the classes work. If it’s not to inconvenient, may I ask some parents here about what they know? PM or open forum is fine.
Love,

RE: School Examinations Too Difficult
Hi USA SIng,
For O levels they draw a bell curve and award the grades according to the performance of the cohort. So does PSLE and A level.
During regular school days, the grades are what you see if what you get . -

Yes I think that’s a very good move Mychildren. It took me a year to familiarise myself with the subjects. Even now, I’m still learning about it.
Its good for parents to learn the syllabus along with their children. It keeps the neurons firing. Also, ifyou are a stay at hm parent, then you can potentially give tuition to other kids, when yours have grown up. -
RE: School Examinations Too Difficult
Having said all this though, I do recognize that teachers are trying their best. Some are. Some have resigned to the fate that they’re job is to finish the syllabus and that’s it.
Some teachers are passionate and impact lives. I recognize their achievements esp when kids come home and tell their parents that they admire their teacher.
But many kids are lost in the system. Some are too under-advantaged to have personal tutors. Some parents go to tuition centres where the many to one ratio occurs again.
I’m glad my brood of 15 tutees are under my care. -
RE: School Examinations Too Difficult
Truthfully, I am doing the school teacher’s job. Singapore has fee education but not quality. Imagine 40 kids to one teacher plus the teacher has to deal with admin and projects. The one to one tutoring is when real learning takes place. Problem for parents also is searching for a good tutor. Tuition agencies are packed with undergrads and inexperienced ones. I recommend all parents to get tutors from word of mouth, not agencies.
